As the Dec 2014 deadline for the withdrawal of the NATO forces draws closer, the task of training a greater number of the elite Afghan National Army Special Forces seems even more urgent. The US Special Forces have been training the Afghan Special Forces in insurgency operations, weapons training, in conducting night raids and in using sophisticated equipment since the past two years.  The first batch of these elite Afghan forces passed out in May 2010. Their training currently taking place just outside Kabul.
Put through strenuous training schedules, the soldiers of the elite Afghan force are carefully selected from among the Afghan Police and Army. Overcoming typical cultural barriers that the NATO forces face in search and raid operations, this elite Special Force is slowly coming into its own. Read more…

  4. A lot needs doing then just the training..
Afghanistan like india has so many problems everything is so caste-socoety-religiously divided..
BUT all the best to the Afghani people ..

(Cant put it there as it says i need to be logged on somewhere)

    • Oh is it! I thought one could even login with one’s google account there. Yes, there are a lot of problems, but they are trying that Afghanistan should not descend into chaos as soon as the NATO forces leave. Afghanistan is a tough society and a country that has seen so much war and ruin.

  5. Good they are getting trained – Better late than never! Hopefully this will make the future of Afghan a better and brighter place.

    • At least help them to protect themselves.

  6. Nice ! Great going Rachna ,all your post in DNA and now this webtv.

    • Thank you Kavita. Yep, professionally writing is doing well :) .

  7. Congratulations , Rachna for moving into the big league. The training without logistics support would be of little use in inhospitable terrain and tackling every Afghan known to be a born fighter and a rebel!

    • Thank you, Rahul. What you say is true. The aim of training these special forces would be to ensure that the Taliban do not take over the country once the NATO forces leave. Also search raids become easier when locals with local sensibilities conduct them. The challenge definitely lies in getting them going without the continued logistical support as you pointed out.

  8. Hey, I am so glad you have started writing on international issues. Good crisp presentation. Way to go. :)

    • Thank you, zephyr! Just taking my professional writing further :) .

  9. Kudos!. As for as Afghanis are concerned they were our own people once upon a time. God help them

  10. Congratulations!! :)

  16. Thanks for the article, but you article is wishful thinking. The actual scenario is totally different and I wish you knew more about afgan scenario.

The us f***ked pretty badly when the were working covertly during Russian’s were having their stay their. Instead of rebuilding the nation then they quit just like that.

Training Afgan solders and expecting them to launch an ingenious attack on taliban is very far fetch. There have been instances where infiltration of ANA have been caught as early as Oct last year.

US declared victory about 10 years ago and Helmund disturbances happened mid last year. British soldiers including Gurkha experienced fierce battle not seen in Afghanistan even during taking of Torra Borra.

You should watch some of the documentaries created by British journalist unlike Americans counterparts they show some of the real truths. Special mention is the one not by a hardcore journalist but by Rosss Kemp, an TV actor who went their with British soldiers an experienced the real taste of war.

The place was hopeless then and the place is hopeless now.
God save them, or more apt “Their Allah Save them and their country”

BTW keep up the good work.

    • Thank you for your visit and sincere comment. I will look up the documentaries that you’ve mentioned. I am sure it is a really uphill battle for Afghanistan. And, I disagree that things are totally black or white.
