children

For some strange reason, I am feeling excessively mopey this morning. Oh, please don’t raise your eyebrows. It has nothing to do with PMS! Yes, the kids have their FAs or unit tests in simpler tongue. And, as usual my hair is on the brink of going completely white. Making my younger son revise in between yawns is so distracting. Besides, he is so fidgety. Is this a traitย with all kids? He sits in funny shapes sometimes coming down in a crash as the chair topples over. Then he finds an annoying toy to fiddle with. It is so distracting. Sometimes, I ask him to fold his hands and sit. But he does so only for a couple of minutes. Then his spelling makes me want to kill myself. It is torture, God, sheer torture that my little son is murdering all the languages I love so much. You sure have a weird sense of humour!

Then this #BudgetAir fiasco is driving me up the wall. I will be doing a full-fledged post on how the refund is not going at all in the way we were promised it would. Those who follow me on twitter (@rachnaparmar) already know what a drag this issue is both emotionally and financially. Thank you all for your support and RTs though. They give me the motivation to keep up the fight.

Then there is this cute little girl who has found friends in my kids and Coco. A few days back I was running an errand and had taken Coco in the car. He sits in the boot and elicits admiring smiles from strangers. I am used to it. As I entered my gated community, I saw a little girl on bike. As soon as I had parked my car, this girl materialized from behind. She must have cycled frantically. Well, she loves dogs, has one herself and thus followed my car. I invited her in where she played with Coco for sometime. Then promised to come back in the evening. Since then the little charmer comes home every day. Such a delight she is. We all love her company and Coco gives her a very welcoming lick climbing all over her every time she visits. ๐Ÿ™‚

In other news, I have a minor knee sprain in my right knee. Now, many years ago, I had a terrible knee sprain in the same knee. It took months to go and I had excruciating pain back then. Just the memory of that sprain makes me wince. Hence, I am walking on eggshells this time. I went ahead and got a heavy-duty knee support that I wear when I go for my walks. Before you protest, walks are fine. I just don’t have to overdo things. Hoping that this time around, I completely get better faster.ย

I end this postย with this fun anecdote:

The younger brat was telling me the other day that he wonders why his teachers use this funny phrase?

I asked, โ€œHmmm?โ€

He said, โ€œWhenever ย the kids in the class are creating a racket, the teacher walks and thunders: Is this a class or a fish market?โ€

He said, โ€œBut the fish market is so quiet. โ€œ (We buy our fish at the superstore.)

He said, โ€œI feel like telling her but then I keep quiet. She may get mad!โ€

I guess the teachers need to work on updating their admonitory phrases now. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a good week, folks!

  1. That sure seems like a lot on your plate at the moment Rachna, thankfully a lot of it is positive as well :). Smiling through so much of this post, yes the FAs bit as well though that is more of an empathetic smile :). LOL on the fish market, we definitely cannot use these phrases from our childhood on our kids! Need updated versions of those asap ;).

  2. This is one of my favorite posts, I love this style of writing. Just like sitting with you over coffee (or tea?) hearing about the happenings in your life!:)
I definitely smiled my way through this one. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. LOL Rachna. Your description of your younger son matches my neighbour’s younger son perfectly… like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Looks like handling all younger boys is tougher than wrestling a tiger. One of the universe’s norms maybe ๐Ÿ™‚

I keep hoping your BudgetAir fiasco gets sorted soon, but looks like those guys don’t want to fulfill this wish. So now I change my wish – I wish you have the patience to see this whole torment through without getting affected. Because it will happen… it will get sorted, eventually. Maybe not as quickly as you want.

P.S. For your bad knee, maybe you can take time out from your hectic schedule and practice yoga twice a week.
Vishal recently posted…Why We Loved Jasleen KaurMy Profile

    • Perhaps, Vishal. It is a challenge these younger boys, I tell you. ๐Ÿ˜€ The elder son is wonderful. He studies himself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you for your wish. I do need a lot of patience. When I penned this post, my blood was on a boil. But I feel calmer and peaceful as the day draws to a close. Yep, it will take time but it will come back.

I know I need to get back to Yoga. I am so erratic with it. By the way, today is the first day when I had no pain in the knee. Touchwood. I have rested it for a week. I just love how my body bounces back.

Thanks for reading and for your comment as always.

Haha about the fish market phrase…. I have been hearing it in my childhood tooo. … funny the teachers are still sticking to it… We need to find new ones for the new generation…

    • I wish you patience, Bilna. Kids can really drive you up the wall. Yes, you know that phrase. I used to wonder too simply because we never consumed fish. So, I had no clue what a fish market was. ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Ahh I remember our teachers saying the same thing when we were in school..they surely need to update their phrases…

And about the mopey mood, I’m in the same mood as well but mine is due to health issues…

I hope your knee gets better ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Awful lot going on there, eh, Rachna? Well, here’s a virtual toast to making sure the rest of this beautiful month (only because it’s my Birthday month – i know, I feel silly saying it aloud ) and hope you get that refund sorted soon.

  10. FA torture- Check; Inattentive kid- Check;

Health issues is what concern me actually. From the sound of it, you need rest and lots of it. But go with your gut and the doc’s advice. As always, you want to call and rant about the kid not studying you know my number ๐Ÿ™‚

Sigh, to be carefree again. That joke by your son is actually very cute and very true!
Shailaja recently posted…Quitting the โ€˜likeโ€™ button #MicroblogMondaysMy Profile

    • Thank you, my dear. One of these days, I will call you and rant. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I am overthinking some things. I need to calm down a bit. The knee is feeling so good today. I love the ability of my body to bounce back. *Makes mental note to meditate more*

Yeah, the little son is quite adorable. His quips are hilarious.

  12. Budget Air problem still not solved? It is very difficult to get back our money once it leaves our hands.

Teaching children stage is over for me, now, Thank god! But I still remember how I was struggling to make them sit in one place!

Take care of your knees. Nowadays, it has become a common problem.
Sandhya Kumar recently posted…I Went On An Open Sea Motor Boat Ride!My Profile

    • Yes, this episode has been a lesson for life for sure. You lucky you. Making them sit in one place is a huge challenge like you said.

Thanks. This time the knee was distressed when I overdid my strength training. Will be more careful.

  13. I was just about to ask about your refund from Budget Air! God! That would be so stressful. Hope you get it real soon. Take care of your knee and get well real soon. LOL@ the fish market… teachers need to change with the changing times ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Ha ha! My son had the same query about that fish market, Rachna! He said they ought to ask if it was the Lok Sabha in session after seeing the unruly proceedings on TV! And oh, when they ate distracted, phew! I used to make deals with him… As in you do this I’ll do that. Would have to keep clever swap ideas ready.

I pray that fiasco sorts itself out soon and you get your refund pronto. Can imagine what a nightmare it must be. Hugs. โค๏ธ
Vidya Sury recently posted…Come September, 27 More Things That Make Me CryMy Profile

    • Yes, the Lok Sabha analogy makes so much more sense. Yes, I have to come up with some good swap ideas, I guess.

Thanks, dear. I guess, I need all the good wishes at the moment. <3

  15. I absolutely loved your post Rachna and related to it every bit ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Hahaha! Saved the problem of teaching children. ADULTS fidget when I try to teach them something ๐Ÿ™‚

AND yes that is one more area of stress for teachers. Finding new metaphors ๐Ÿ™‚

Found a new home, yet? Where?
    C. Suresh recently posted…Trek to Valley of Flowers with GIO – To GhangariaMy Profile

    • So, you are back? Yes, teachers, they need to upgrade all their skills big time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not yet, Suresh. Did not come across any Apartments/gated communities in BTM. Have to find schools on that side too for the next year.

  17. Love these tiny vignettes from your home. The teaching between the yawns!! Lord how extremely annoying!! I so know what you’re saying. Knee pains are terrible. Do take care.

  18. I guess that’s what they call a “full life” – with different ups and downs, some tricky stuff and some pleasant, some challenging and some mundane, some distressing and some cheerful. Hope your knee begins to feel better soon. Take it easy!

About the fish-market joke, your son’s teacher really needs to upgrade her vocabulary. A mall during Diwali season, perhaps? ๐Ÿ™‚ It reminds me of the time when I taught some very rowdy teenagers for about 5 years – more than two decades ago it was. I never used the fish-market analogy, maybe because I am a vegetarian! Come to think of it, I never even use the example of subzi mandi ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Was reminded of the time someone asked me how I was and I gave a detailed reply. Pretty sure that the person wont ask me that question again :-). Sigh, I wish I could also play with dogs all day :-). And speaking of Fish market, I happened to pass by a fish market once and realized how horribly noisy it was that, I was sure we never created that much of a racket.

And have faith Rachna, you’ll definitely get the refund. Things will go the way you wished them to. Dont worry.
Ashwini CN recently posted…When Dreams Come True!My Profile

    • hehe Yeah, sometimes I tend to do that too. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah, those kind of fish markets are fast disappearing from cities.

Your calm words are so soothing, Ash. I take solace in them. Hopefully soon. Thanks so much.

  23. I hope your knee is better. (I asked that first cause I have a swollen knee myself). Rachna I love these posts of yours, feels like we are just chatting up. Exams, I dread that bit. Making S sit in one place is such a pain, I know it will be even more painful getting him to study. And yes the teachers do need to learn new phrases. That was a funny anecdote. As far as Budget Air, I know they will give your money back, I just hope its soon though. You have lost enough peace over this.
Jaibala Rao recently posted…Aamchi Police CampaignMy Profile

    • Jaibala, the knee is back to normal. Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like these posts too. They are a way of poking fun at ourselves. Even the kids enjoy reading them.

  24. simple but lovely post. Kids are outsmarting us these days. Need to regularly upgrade and update to answer their queries.
