June was a month of many trials. Routine was resumed as both the kids went back to school, and I had the cherished silence at home to work. So here’s a look back at what transpired this month:
Health and Fitness:
As almost all of you are aware, my knee trouble continued in June. I tried to rest the knee as much as possible, and I am happy to say that things started getting better. I am almost 60% healed and when I visited the doctor at month end, he was hopeful that I should be almost normal in another month hopefully. That fills me with so much hope and happiness, I can’t tell you. Of course, I am still careful with the knee but I am now allowed to walk a little and continue with my stretches and other strengthening exercises. I am now able to climb steps albeit gingerly. Most importantly, I am pain free unless I overdo something. So this is the most joyful news in June. I am so very grateful that the knee is healing.

Stretching is good for you. And if your dog wants to give you company, even better. 😉 Since my knee injury, I have been doing more of #Yoga, light stretches, Pranayam and asanas that I can do without bending my right knee (doc approved ones). Yoga is gentle for your joints, builds flexibility and helps with your mental health. No matter what your level of #fitness, adopt it happily. #InternationalYogaDay2018 #InternationalDayofYoga #worldyogaday * * * * #rachnasays #exercisewithdogs #cocotales #dogtales #dogs_of_instagram #dogslife #dogoninstagram #labradorsofinstagram #labradorretrievers #labradorsofig #labradorsofinsta #petlover #pettales #petparent #petparenthood #yogaeverydamnday #yogaforhealth #yogastretches #yogainspiration #yogalife #Yogalifestyle
I also had my annual health checkup this month and dang I am severely deficient in Vitamin D. It’s so frustrating. So I’ve started on supplements which will continue for 3 months. I am also going to the terrace every morning to catch sun. Glad to report that I’ve done it diligently the entire month and hope to continue it as long as I can.

This was the gorgeous morning sky at 8 am from my home's terrace. Sat with the husband chatting and most importantly sunning myself. The recent health check showed Vitamin D deficiency yet again. I know, frustrating! So apart from starting supplements, now I will sun myself diligently for half an hour daily. Please wish me luck! It is sad that 90% of people in cities have Vitamin D deficiency especially in a country like India which is blessed with sunshine. So here are some tips for all of us who hardly go out in sun. ✔️ Find 30 minutes in a day to get sunshine. Walk/jog or just stick around in the sun. Do it early morning preferably. ✔️ Don't sun yourself when the sun is strong between noon and 4. ✔️ Sunlight through car's window or any window is diffused and does not count. ✔️ Have Vitamin D fortified food ✔️ Considering how widespread the problem is please find time to do it. ✔️Don't use sunscreen when sunning yourself. ✔️You will not absorb Calcium effectively if you are low on Vitamin D so higher chances of osteoporosis, falls and fractures * * #rachnacooks #health #fitnessfreak #fitmom #fitmoms #vitamind #vitaminddeficiency #vitamindtherapy
Overall health has been decent. I do miss my workouts but I am determined to see this knee injury through completely.
My father celebrated his birthday this month and it was also Father’s Day. Though not in the same city, we ploughed him with wishes. Can never feel grateful enough for his wise counsel.
Older son is in the thick of extra curricular activities and classes. Younger boy is slowly easing into the new year’s curriculum. Nothing much to mention on that front. Coco is doing better. He misses his evening walks on those occasions when it rains. And when I drag him to the terrace, he prefers to avoid sunlight. Lazy bum he is!
Grateful for the kids and the husband for being so patient and taking all the extra running around that they do because I can’t in their stride.
This month was all about football. I only watch football from World Cup to World Cup. 🙂 So evenings are taken up by it. I also managed to finish watching The Good Wife. Loved it. It had drama and law. Both of which I like. Every single time when I watch an engrossing series on Netflix or Amazon, I wonder why we can’t have such stories on Indian television. I am sure we have good writers and actors. Now I have moved on to The Crown on Netflix which I am immensely enjoying. In between, we watched Incredibles 2 as a family, which was a very enjoyable outing. 6 months without TV and I don’t miss it at all. 🙂
Strangely, I am not reading at all — books I mean. Don’t know why but I don’t feel like picking anything up.
Work is going on smoothly, thank heavens for it. Trying and testing a lot of marketing activities for Coco Smart Homes. The blogs are doing well and happy with the brands I am working with. I have been paying more attention to the cooking blog, working more on the pictures and also on Pinterest and it is reaping good dividends. I have already doubled the traffic on the blog in 3 months. I did take this Pinterest course which helped me achieve a good momentum on Pinterest in a short time. This is the link if you wish to try it out too Pinterest Ninja.
Hope to continue the good run. I have also revived Rachna Cooks Food Channel and hopefully will continue to add regular videos.
Overall, life is extremely busy and full at the moment. And I say it with utmost equanimity. I am keeping the stress and worry under control. Despite uncertainty and extenuating circumstances on many occasions, I am glad to say that I am keeping myself optimistic and result oriented. I tend to worry too much so I stop myself when I feel that I am slipping into that mode.
On that note, that was my June. Hope July is even better. Hopefully I will fully recover with respect to the knee at the end of it. Fingers crossed!
