My friend, Shantala, tagged me in what seems like a fun tag, Anything but books. As the name suggests, one can’t name anything related to books or books in any answer and that I can imagine can be challenging and fun. So, I bit the bait. Now, I know that most of you who have been reading my blog know all that I would like to share about me. Let’s see if this tag will throw up something interesting and not known:

Name a cartoon(s) that you love.

I am more of a superhero loving person than a cartoon loving one. Yeah, alright! No need to smirk. My current favourite is Wonder Woman. But, if I had to name a cartoon, it would have to be Asterix. I love Asterix comics. They are so witty and wonderful. Asterix, Obelix and all the characters are my absolute favourites.

What is your favorite song/s right now?

The Shape of You by Ed Sheeran is my current favourite. I know, cheesy but come on, I have a teen and a tween at home. 😉 My all-time favourites continue to be old Hindi film melodies.

What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

There are couple of activities: listening to music and watching my favourite tele series. As a matter of fact, there is a radio station that my husband plays in the morning that plays only old Hindi melodies, really fantastic playlist, that keeps playing for hours at home. And, of course, I have binge watched many tele series, mostly American TV dramas. My favourite genre is crime thrillers. I have binge watched Law and Order, Dexter, Homeland and many more.

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I guess that would have to be that I don’t enjoy daily cooking. For some strange reason, most people think that just because I enjoy cooking or cook daily that I must be spending all the time in the kitchen cooking. It cannot be further from the truth. I always look to cook smart, spending as little time in the kitchen as possible. But yes, I have a passion for good food and love trying various dishes at home.

What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

I am a learner for life. I read a lot on health, nutrition, fitness, food. I also constantly update my knowledge of social media, SEO, digital marketing, blogging etc. which are important in my line of work. Everything new that I work on involves a lot of learning. Like recently I started my Youtube channel after doing some online courses on basic video making. I am constantly learning to take better photographs.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

Hmmm This is a really tough one. I guess I can bend by thumb backwards and also bend my fingers at a funny angle. J

Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can).

Simple. My Food YouTube Channel. These are the videos I have made after many hiccups, and there is still a pretty long way to go.

What is your most recent personal project?

My recent personal project is on worrying less and also on regularity in fitness. Glad to say that work on both counts is going well.

Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows).

I think about a lot of things. Really! I find that any spare time I have, I just drown into thoughts. Most of it is about the kids and family.

Give us something that’s your favorite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favorite food, but like your favorite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that.

My favourite colour is blue but a couple of current favourites these days are teal and wine. I have also discovered that I only like brewed coffee now. Freshly brewed coffee is an indulgence of mine. Of late, I have been experimenting with the lipstick colours that I wear and am loving the fresh burst of colour that they bring to my look. I recently bought a dress after ages, after college I think. Need to wear these more as well.

So, that’s about it from me. I would love to hear more about you as well. If you have not taken up this tag till now, please do.

33 Thoughts on “A Bit More About Me (Anything But Books)

  1. It’s good to know you better. Liked your answers!
I also don’t enjoy cooking but I am not creative either (like you). And, your enthusiasm for fitness is inspiring.
    Best wishes, always…:)

    • Thank you, Tarang, for the warm words. I don’t enjoy everyday cooking. Give me everything chopped and I will love to rustle up something. Food excites me but anything done daily becomes mundane.

  2. Rachna, it’s such an interesting list that you have and so much fun…I don’t know the A to Z of food…i can only darn things for myself that no one can taste. I am a coffee person, like anything. I too love to learn new things and for me, right now I am into PR for a year but still feel like a new-bie.

  3. Good to know a bit more about you. I like what you said for your recent personal project 🙂 I should take up both of them, am already trying but still must work to stay motivated. And I also fully agree with cooking smart, spending as little time in the kitchen as possible 🙂

  4. Funny, my teen’s fave song is Shape of you and he is insisting I listen to it. Maybe I should try. Give me some gyan on video making. Your YT channel is v good and I like the format. Good to know bit more of you.

    • You should listen. It is quite catchy and fun. Thank you for your lovely words about my channel. I’ve already shared the inputs as a comment on your blog.

  5. Oh Shape of You is all over the place as also Sia’s Cheap thrills. For once I don’t mind. I love how committed you are to your fitness goals. I get thrown off gear easily. Any change in routine – a holiday or an outing and my fitness schedule goes for a toss.

    • Oh, those hurt my fitness routine as well, but I am generally regular otherwise. More than anything else, I enjoy the stamina and strength that I feel. 🙂

  6. Lovely extra bits and pieces about Rachna 🙂 It made me smile to read about your morning routine listening to old music. A week or so ago, I and boyfriend were cooking Risotto, so I suggested we listened to Italian music – I was surprised how nice that felt, kind of turning back time, and it was a new experiment for my guy, so all in all a win 🙂 Unlike you, when I stare out the window, I don’t think about anything, I just stare at the things I see and name them 🙂 Thanks for this fun post, Rachna!

  7. Ahh good to know, Rachna. But wasn’t it hard to not mention anything related to books?

Would you believe me if I said that I’m yet to listen to Shape of you? These days only Rhymes are played at home. I even find myself humming Johnny Johnny at work!

This seems like a fun tag and now after reading all of yours posts, I feel like doing one myself. Perhaps, if time permits.

    • It was, quite hard. I went back and changed a couple of answers. 🙂 Oh, you should listen. Very catchy tune though the words are not little children appropriate. Please do the tag. I would love to read your post.

  8. This was such fun! And what?? You don’t like to cook? I don’t believe you 😉 your YouTube channel is testimony to that.

As for letting go of worries I hear you. So much of that I need to do. I’m learning slowly. Getting back to Zen the best I can. Ooh and I want to see you in the dress! Please put photo. Must thank Shantala for this tag 🙂

  9. Your Food Channel is something you must be proud of, Rachna. Since I have been grappling with taking decent food photos & even video basics, I know that they are no mean feat.

But you are doing a good job. I have seen most of your videos. I just don’t get to comment all that often because I typically multitask (cook/clean) when I see YT videos, but I do enjoy them.

Oh and I would love to see you in the dress. Please do share a pic with us.

  10. You have a long list of accomplishments Rachna!Much to take pride in

  11. Homeland is one of my favorite series too! Have you watched The Americans? That’s another excellent series set during the Cold War in the US.

Could you share which online course you took on taking videos? I’ve shot a couple, but could always work on improving my skills!

  12. I’m gonna be keenly following your updates on nutrition and health now 🙂

I follow your food channel closely and have tried out the recipes as well.

Good to know you more, Rachna 🙂

  13. Those were nice rare insights .Happy to know more about you.
I too love old Hindi melodies-a lovely pastime for me.And yes lifelong learning is my passion too–even though I promptly forget a lot of it.

  14. Even though a hard core devotee of Indian classical and folks, i lked that ed sheeran number for a change.

  15. This was fun 🙂
    Enjoyed reading all your answers.

  16. Ah! I am with you on cooking. I am not a big fan of cooking and prefer to cook quicker and easier recipes unlike KG who has immense patience to cook elaborate meals! Good luck with your projects, Rachna and enjoyed reading this post!

  17. I have been meaning to read this post of yours since the day you published it, Rachna. And, today, I decided to just do it!
Well, it sure is a surprise to know that you aren’t very fond of cooking everyday. But, I can understand. We have to cook by default and that’s the reason we seldom find it exciting to enter the kitchen to cook the daily meals. And, well, I too am a worrier, just like you! I am working on myself, but there are times I slip off the track and go back to worrying! 😀
it was really great reading about you, knowing you a bit more than I already do!
By the way, what’s your favourite shade in lipsticks? I prefer browns…what about you?
    <3

    • You got it right, Shilpa. Something that one does every day can get mundane though I have a passion for food which is quite apparent. 🙂 Good to know that you are working on worrying less as well. These days my favourite shades are red, plum and a pink-brown shade that I recently discovered.

  18. I had stumbled across this Howcast YouTube channel, which has an entire playlist on photography. Do check it out when you can!

I too love updating myself about current topics, and I find feedly to be the best app to use for curating content that I love.

The thumb backwards thingy is really unique ?

Do not leave without commenting. I love a good conversation :).
