I first heard about Chennai’s advanced medical care a few years ago. As an Indian, I am extremely proud to note that healthcare in India is of extremely high standard which is comparable and even better than some of the best hospitals from across the world. Chennai attracts around 40% to 50% of all patients visiting India for specialized healthcare. Every day about 200 international patients arrive seeking superspeciality healthcare ranging from cancer treatment, transplants, eye surgery, heart care etc. Apollo Hospitals, Fortis Hospitals, Heart Institute and Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Sankara Nethralaya and MV Hospital for Diabetes and Diabetes Research are among the most sought after advanced medical care destinations in Chennai.

Not only does the city get patients from developed world like the USA, UK, Europe and others but underdeveloped and developing nations like the Maldives, SAARC nations and African countries also seek specialized healthcare from India. This has led to a unique phenomenon called Medical Tourism in the country. India is preferred as a nation for seeking high quality advanced medical care because it has state-of-the-art medical care in the world at a fraction of a cost of the same in developed countries. Not to mention that the waiting periods are non-existent or significantly lower. The patients are treated well and get to experience the famed Indian hospitality in state-of-the-art rooms with excellent amenities.

Chennai has such an established reputation for advanced medical care that it is a favoured destination for domestic patients as well. This trend was started in the early 2000s with private hospitals in Chennai like the Apollo Hospitals leading the charge in providing world-class facilities and expertise that started attracting patients globally. Apollo’s success inspired many other private hospitals and specialty hospitals in Chennai to offer the same. Today the best hospitals in Chennai offer just about everything from liposuction and heart surgery to minimally invasive joint replacement. Other treatments that are sought after are alternative medicine, eye surgery, dental treatment, bone marrow transplant, organ transplant, open heart surgery and more.

Some attractions that have led to Chennai being a leading destination for medical care are government emphasis on improving infrastructure, attractive cost advantage, latest medical technology and compliance with international standards as well as English being widely understood that makes it easier for foreigners to communicate. This sector is now worth $15 billion and is growing at a scorching pace.

Chennai is now India’s health capital. It has about 12,500 hospital beds in super-speciality hospitals that cater to patients from India and abroad. If you are looking for top-quality healthcare at affordable price, head to our own Chennai for some of the best healthcare facilities in the world.

13 Thoughts on “Finding advanced medical care in Chennai

  1. Leave alone the foreigners who come to Chennai for treatment, there are plenty of people from other states thronging to these reputed hospitals. What they lack is affordable and decent accommodation very close to hospitals saving from the costly commuting within city.Such places of accommodation should serve only the family members of the patients after proper identification.
Hospitals should provide infrastructure for businessmen willing to start such hotels. This will increase in turn. the volume of patients

  2. Good to see some positives highlighted about the medical field. Otherwise the news is all about how commercialized it has become.
