This is a great new initiative by Times of India and Janaagraha. We recently had BBMP elections in Bangalore, and the results have come in too. Bangaloreans have a lot of expectations from their Corporators, and they have heard many promises during the elections. We always feel that these people make promises and do not deliver. There is nothing much we can do for their full tenure.

Now this initiative promises to track the performance of the elected representatives on 5 parameters. This will happen through the entire tenure of 5 years. It will give us an opportunity to judge and pressure our representatives to fulfill their promises. This will invoke a sense of involvement of the common man in the democratic process.

More details will be available in the days coming up. It is a great social initiative by Times of India. It is a great thing to have someone from the powerful media to initiate a watchdog mechanism for the people. It will hopefully keep these Corporators on their toes. We hope that the funds will be utilized in the development of this wonderful city instead of being siphoned off into some corrupt pockets.

11 Thoughts on “Bangalore Patrol

  1. I must say it is a great initiative by TOI.But, leaving them alone on this may not take it forward and hence some one from the public or a set of people must get involved to ensure its success.

  2. Hi Rachna, thats good….nothing like someone watching over their shoulders.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Here we have the press and journalists who take no prisoners, writing without fear or favour.
And God help the politician who fools around.

Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.
Have a nice day, keep well, Lee.

  3. “Politicians are like diapers.” — good one, Uncle Lee! ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. @BK Chowla It is a great initiative, and it is done in collaboration with Janagraha which has been involved in many social initiatives in Bangalore. They are coming out with a lot of details about how exactly the performance of each ward will be measured on a scale of 10. And, common citizens, like you and me, can fill forms to participate in the surveys. It will be an ongoing process for the next 5 years.

@Uncle Lee I agree with what you say. Politics and politicians are just so murky and much more corrupt in India. That this country manages to progress, despite their presence, is a miracle in itself! We can achieve wonder, if only all the public funds or most of them are utilized for the purpose for which they are allocated. For that, we need better monitoring.

Loved your last quote :). Politicians are just like diapers!
