Summer holidays commenced almost by the 3rd week of March for the kids. Weather changed dramatically from being quite chilly to pretty hot these days. It is also humid, and along with frequent showers, cold fluids, lots of curd, ice creams, we yearn for some showers. My maid is on leave due to her daughter’s delivery. There is a substitute in place. Now, one cannot be too strict with the substitutes, or they will just stop coming. So, tolerate what she does and count the days till my regular maid will be back. The workload of household work has increased because this maid just does the bare minimum work.
This time both Sid and Gautam are enrolled in summer camps. Try working from home when two kids are at home! So, Sid goes for badminton training, and Gautam is in a camp that does fun activities. Both the places are within a 2-km radius from home, but their timings being different there are 3 pick ups and drops to be done. I do two of them whereas hubby does one. I just hate driving on Bannerghatta Road — the traffic is bad, there are terrible jams and sometimes it takes me more than 30 minutes to crawl for 2 kms. The road has obscene speed breakers or humps, as they are called here ( car breakers or bone breakers would be a more apt term) that just come into view suddenly. Then, there are buses and lorries that think that both sides of the lane are meant for them. Adding to the woes, the genuine increase in the number of cars on the road, and the drive is a damn pain. I don’t know if the stress on the road each day is worth sending them to these camps. The only saving grace — both of them are enjoying their activities.
Coco, my dog, is 11 months old now and such a good boy. Always ready to give a hug, he otherwise does not trouble us much. He is used to a routine and seems to be doing well in that. A happy cheerful person to be around! Now, I am planning for a vacation in May, so a lot of research, bookings and reading through customer reviews is on. It is quite stressful planning a holiday, I tell you :). Both Sid and Gautam need their passports renewed so some form filling, submissions and appointments to be taken there. I have a list of other things that I need to get done in the month of May. Phew!!
Holidays — sure for kids. For us, it is work as usual rather more than usual :).

Poor chap, his blog got deleted and with great difficulty he just could recover a few blog posts that he has reposted.

42 Thoughts on “Holidays?

  1. You need to plan a lot for holiday and after a holiday need a break to recover from the hectic travel and sight seeing schedule:)

  2. vacationing means a lot of hard work ..one week before and two weeks after..

  3. I agree with Rahul, but it is all part of the game, so plunge in and get going. It would definitely be worthwhile, and your holiday would be hassle free.

  4. Hahaha! And you thought holidays were fun?:P I did all the planning and booking part in mid Feb;) So now, its just vacation time:) As for the roads, it is the same chaos everywhere:(

  5. Slogging has become more important in every field, it does not matter you like it or not but you have to slog! It’s really great that summer camps are getting more attention nowadays than before, time is better utilized 🙂 😀

  6. Enjoy the planning. I love that part too. 🙂 And the part when you get back from the vacation and share pictures and stories, is fantastic too. This will keep you in high spirits for atleast 4 months. I think the work is worth it. : ) I don’t need to send the kids to camps anymore, they have extra classes in school itself. 🙁 I want my chota babies back! 🙁

The next time I come to Bangalore, I am going to charter a private plane to travel between streets. I have never seen worse traffic jams anywhere in the world(I have seen). Especially when you have limited time there and lots to do!

  7. Summer holidays? Already? Wow!

Enjoy! True it is more work for us moms, no way around it.

  8. All the best Rachna.Where would you keep Coco when on holidays ?

    • I have to put him at a dog boarder’s once the trip is finalized. It should not be a very long stay, and he is very friendly. He adjusts well which is a big relief, and this lady is nice. She keeps him inside her house and takes good care of him including his food and walks :).

  9. So where are you going in May????

  10. There is so much to do these days during the summers!I remember our younger days when all we did was visit grandparents -but that was fun too!! There is not much of visiting cousins or family these days- and I sincerely believe that summers those days were not as hot as they are now! Have fun and keep blogging through it all !!

    • yes, we did that all the time. We spent all our summer holidays at our cousins’. It was not this hot or maybe we kids did not care, and we really did not have much to do. Thanks!

  11. Wonderful! Are you planning to go out of India? The kids must be so thrilled. You deserve a break after all the hectic work of setting up your new business.

We are planning to visit my little moppet in UK in May. Can’t wait. 🙂

    • No, just something closeby. That kind of trip will require some planning in advance :). Thank you and wow, hope you have a great time in UK too!

  12. Its always good to plan ones holidays in advance.
Our problem has been….work pressure after the holidays

  13. And I am back from my vacations 🙁 And back to routine. But Glad to be back too and blog hopping is sure fun 😀

    • Oh bummer and feels bad too especially when you are back after visiting family. Hope, they were fun. You really just go missing from the virtual world. Yep, you have a lot of catching up to do.

  14. The word traffic scares me. Nowhere in the world will you find such deadly speed breakers. And driving in this blaring heat! :-/ I feel bad for you

  15. Frequently staying in Purva heights,I know what it is to drive through Bannerghata road. There is hardly any scope for widening it.While cars crawl, the pedestrians face the worst hardship. You must have lots of patience to drive through this mess daily two or three times. The happiness of kids blunts the misery of driving.
Happy Holidays in May.Have you decided the place?

    • You are right, KP sir. It is a huge nuisance. There are no footpaths and all kinds of vehicles including buses get onto the dirt road in order to overtake. It is maniacal. I am trying the bookings, nothing has materialized as yet.

  16. So where is she heading off to? I just love the excitement of planning a holiday- booking tickets, packing stuff, all those last minute goof-ups!

And your boy has a blog? Will definitely check it out 🙂

    • Still planning. But somewhere closeby. hehe Your kids are older. With my boys, I go crazy keeping their stuff and their cribs about missing toys or games. Oh yes, Sid just started blogging recently.

  17. This is really interesting…
