Wow, there was a time when we did not have internet. It seems so difficult to imagine that time. though I have lived through it. My first foray with the world wide web came only pretty late, towards the late 90’s and I have actively felt its utility only in the last 5 years. Hey, I met Gurdev through the internet too, so that is the biggest benefit this far for me :). The other big advantages are related to utilities – pay bills, check your bank a/c online, order a phone connection, a plane ticket, train ticket and so on and check the status, lodge complaints etc. This convenience angle has been extra wonderful.

We can talk to anybody and work for anyone as we are all connected globally. Staying in touch has never been easier even before the advent of social networking. The wonderful email ensured that we could easily hear from our parents, relatives, friends sitting in any corner of the world. And now personally for me blogging and social networking are major advantages. I have made new friends, kept in touch with old friends, in short we can share our lives so easily these days. It is great to be able to access movies, songs, clips etc. so easily. The flip side, objectionable content and people are so easily and readily available. Look at all the child predators lurking around preying for young children. The children finding access to easily available pornographic content much before they should. Scary, indeed! With technological progress come new challenges. We have to be vigilant while enjoying the benefits.
