Kaun Banega Crorepati – Season 5 was very special. Some can call it populist or sucking up to emotions, even if it was, I guess I don’t care. It was indeed heartening to see so many real stories of struggles, of adversity and determination, tears and grit. Of course, no one can forget Sushil Kumar winning 5 crores or Anil Kumar winning 1 crore, but there were so many others like the handicapped Muslim man, the man with a stammer who confessed to contemplating suicide, a farmer’s widow, the lady teacher from a village whose entire family depended on Rs. 8000 per month that she earned, the lady from Ladakh whose entire family was wiped out during the Leh flash floods, the widow of a police officer killed by Naxalites and so many more. There were times when I had tears in my eyes, when I was rooting for them to win or when I felt upset if someone lost the money they made. It made me more aware of how so many Indian live on much less, struggle with less opportunities, and yet complain much less than we do. There was so much to be learned from their thought process, their values, and their honest approach. For the privileged like us, this is a reality check.

agree to evry word..I also felt the same..I nevr watched KBC earlier, but this time got hooked…
the participants showed that values are not the privileges of rich and honesty is not reciprocal to salary as many people think.
And of course Mr. bacchan made it so special by his humility and understanding.
Yes, KBC was a good show, and it can remain a good show only if it is hosted by Amitabh, Shahruk khan was the worst.
He is born with the knack, the ability to relate to each and every person who makes it to the hot seat. I totally admire him.
the joy on their faces is something most viewers can never forget
and yes, diligence paid with a stroke of luck for them. hope things are going to be a bit better for them
Rachna, this was a very well written balanced analysis of this popular show! Surely, it was an emotional mix bag and aura of the Big B added all the luster!
@Renu Thanks! Your views are very aptly put.
@rama Agree totally! Those kind of qualities are just not seen in people these days.
@sujatha I hope so too. The joy was so genuine.
@Rahul thank you so much! Indeed, what you say is true.
agree with all those who have written here..good post yar..
Thanks for this post..I have to start assessing KBC in such an analytical way
…I dont follow KBC regularly ..but saw couple of times..
Agree wid you..Big b is some kind of inspiration for all..he is such a good host so helpful and down to earth…those who met him in reality has praised him for his humbleness.
God bless ..him.
I completely agree with you ,KBC this season is not only inspiring but also gives you that ‘feel good feeling’.Amitabh Bachchan surely holds the credit to make KBC a huge success.I admire Mr. Bachchan for his humble and down to earth approach.
Season five was the best of KBC till now.Audience,Partisipants,AB-everyone has put in their best.
Look forward to the next season
Tot agree …. KBC 5 wasn’t just a game show but a stage to chase your dreams and achieve them.. 🙂
Weakest LINK
Nodding in absolute agreement. The show did a whole lot of good to many and the way Big B handles the show, none can.
It was indeed an amazing season Rachna.. 🙂

completely agree. In fact I don’t know why I suddenly started watching the show again after, I think, as much as 2 years. The season was exceptional in every sense and Mr.Bachchan was just phenomenal.
It was different from the earlier ones mainly because of the participants. But somehow i felt that it was not by chance but by design that the participants were picked from smaller towns and even villages. And yes, the tilting factor was AB Sr. 🙂
@Ramesh Thanks a lot!
@Tomz This season inspired me, not all the seasons :).
@Harman Absolutely agree!
@kavita I love your new picture! Awesome. I agree with what you say as well.
@BKChowla me too.
@Rachit True. It helped a lot of people achieve their dreams.
@Monu Thank you for visiting my space, and you are absolutely right.
@Vijay Menon Me too. I have not been following the other seasons but this one got me hooked on.
@Cybernag I am sure that getting needy participants from smaller towns was definitely by design. But, I felt it was a good initiative, and I certainly feel that they deserved and needed the money much more.
Agree with you Rachna, ever since KBC started I actually became a fan of this show. Mr. Bachchan’s personality and presence is something that really holds you on to this show.
A wonderful post, covering every aspect .
Thank you Ruprekha!
Rachna,
I was never a big fan of AB though I liked him in Abhiman, Sholay and Chupke Chupke, Namak Haram.
But AB ROCKS in KBC. KBC is AB. I watched all episodes and just for AB.
@A I am a fan of AB for his earlier movies and for his later ones. The ones in the middle were quite sad. But, the way he conducts himself, and his connects with the people is amazing. You are right. I also watched this season only for him.
rachna..dropped in 2 say hiiii:)
never seen this… but it sounds really interesting….
you know i have not even seen a SINGLE episode although i have heard about it a lot .. I got to get my subscription for some indian channels done quickly ..
Amitabh is good person i feel , and damn good actor and i guess he has seen life all its colours so he knows , he was a no body himslef before becoming someone , then almost losing it all too .. so he too has worked hard ..
Bikram’s
@Emmy Not being in India, you can miss the hype.
@Bikram Oh yes, you need to get some Indian channels soon. You are right, he has come up the hard way in life, but is atleast attuned to his roots. Most people today are in the sky just by one hit.
