I have taught Hindi for a year for Primary classes before Gautam was born. I am not trained in teaching but I take pride in my correctness of diction and my knowledge of Hindi and my rapport with children. So I was up for the challenge when the job was offered to me. It was a great experience though extremely hectic. Teaching children is very tough and very enjoyable. I haven’t gone back to teaching after that and have taken up writing now.

A couple of months ago, two parents approached me for tuition for their sons in Hindi. I was reluctant because I hardly get any free time but took it up. It has been a nice experience this far and more so rewarding because just yesterday a parent thanked me because her son scored very highly. I think respect and praise are the biggest rewards for any teacher. Of course, it is tough teaching a language to a child whose mother tongue it is not. But both the boys I teach are sincere and eager to learn. I get to share views with them and listen to their thoughts.

The biggest advantage is that I get to stay in touch with a language I love, admire and am good at apart from being my mother tongue. Wish there were better publications and writings in Hindi which were easily accessible in Bangalore.

2 Thoughts on “My experience with giving tuition

  1. Besides the praise and reward, it is the pleasure of moulding a child’s future with your contribution that thrills you! Well Done.
