Ah, the painting work in my house is finally getting over today. And, the house is a riot of colors. I love colors — vibrant, bright and beautiful. They seem to emanate energy, so I’ve got reds, purples, greens, blues, yellows, oranges and browns in light and dark shades all over the house :). This time we went with Asian Paints Royale that gives a lovely sheen to the walls. And, now the big work is in rearranging the stuff. Even though every 3 or 4 months, I give away stuff to my maid and do massive cleaning operation around diwali, my battle with clutter is unending. Some of it is due to my own inability to do a daily job of segregating stuff, as it keeps disappearing into drawers and then piles up. Like I’ve mentioned many times before, housekeeping is not my forte. Some of it is due to growing kids who outgrow clothes and toys. Some of the clutter is due to hubby’s fondness of accumulating gadgets and resistance to discarding old wrapping, old magazines, older gadgets. Anyway, it will take me 3-4 days of work to get things back in order and hopefully the clutter will stay reduced, as I am hoping to take the help of kids to keep things in order and pay my maid a bit more to expedite things :).

22 Thoughts on “New look

  1. so, in the end of all cleaning an painting, u gave a new look to ur blog also?

  2. its always tiring to arrange things after painting is done….

  3. Wow! everything new new, nice. After getting settled please don’t forget to put pictures of your new colorful walls.
    It is always difficult to give away things that we no longer use it. Even i find it difficult to get rid of things, they just keep mocking me from the cupboards.

  4. @Tomz Absolutely :). Change is alluring.

    @Irfannuddin It is and all my limbs are hurting.

    @rama sure will do that. Parting from possessions we know that we will know longer use is sometimes so difficult.

  5. Rachna: It is good you like the colors. For me, when we painted our house from neutral to brighter colors, it took a few days to readjust and start liking it. My first reaction was shock!

    Have fun with decluttering which is my all time favorite! No, no, no! We won’t just take your word for it. We want proof all decluttering is done :)))

  6. aww – you should post a few photos 🙂

  7. That’s cool! It’s a wonderful feeling to see (and stay) in a freshly painted home!!
    But yes, the aftermath can be pretty tiring and there are times, when you just wish for a wand to settle it all!!
    And the clutter-de-clutter is a never ending process!! 🙁

  8. Congratulations :))) it is not easy…new look to blog is easier though:))

  9. Enjoy the beautiful colors all around you ,Rachna .Wish you a very happy weekend ,i know it’s going to be a very busy one.

  10. Doesnt one gets painting job done during Diwali?

  11. The colors can totally transform the look of the house. I am glad you did it. It also gives a chance to arrange and throw away unwanted stuffs. Share some pictures please 🙂

  12. Congratulations and all the best for the ‘decluttering’

  13. @NRIGirl Yes, for those fond of pastels or subtle it could take some time to adjust. Sure, I will post pics 🙂 but the clutter is always lurking in places not clearly visible to the eyes :).

    @Raaji Sure :).

    @Shilpa Right, the wonder is there everytime I look around and hopefully will last for a few days. You are right, decluttering is unending almost a daily thing.

  14. @A Yeah, wish one could change the look of a house with the click of some buttons, sigh…

    @kavita Thanks! And, weekend means more cooking too :).

    @BKChowla Traditionally, yes. But, these days, painting is done once every 5 years or so and definitely never during diwali due to so many other preparations.

    @Insignia Truly. The rearranging, reallocating and giving away is much more intense just now. And 3 rooms are already looking so much neater. I will click some pics soon when I am done with the entire house.

    @Bhagyashree Thanks :).

  15. Tough job, but a great way to remove clutter…blog looks nice.

  16. I like your new background. Very disco. In honour of the house painting? I face same challenges as you in throwing away clutter. Although the pack rat in my house is my husband. Once when I was rumaging through the loft I came across plastic covers – at least 10 kgs of them I think!! Now they are all waiting to be used as garbage bin liners.

  17. @Alka Yeah, a great way to remove clutter. Thanks!

    @Deepa Thanks! I like blue and this one was dhinchak in keeping with my mood currently 🙂 perhaps influenced by the painting. And hehe ditto with my hubby — all kinds of bubble wraps and cartons are stored by him :).

  18. Would love to see the pics too!
