I know! So much has been written about this since the news broke out on Friday. My two cents as well :). I am strictly opposed to it. It has nothing to do with Mr. Obama who in my opinion has a tough task cut out for him, anyway. He is intelligent, has a clear vision, is hardworking and has a refreshing approach no doubt. But, all that he has said remains just that – words, thoughts and ideas. The tasks are not simple and might need a lifetime to accomplish if he can ever do that. Having great ideas is all good but we demand more action especially in our part of the world. It is good to try and bring peace to Afghanistan and Pakistan problem and to send aid for reconstruction. But the same money is pilfered by the Pakistani establishment to use against India. These are facts which the Americans are aware of but conveniently ignore as they need Pakistan to be their ally, righteousness be damned. Obama makes the right noises but the policies are a spillover from the Bush era. He wishes to engage the Muslim world but he would need to move mountains to bring peace in the Middle East and that does not happen when they continue to support Israel even though they keep Palestinians on a tight leash subjecting them to humiliating blockades.
Nobel Peace Prize is given for measurable contributions to World Peace and not glossy visions of it. I am sorry if I sound cynical but the Award’s credibility has been seriously dented. Well, it was under a cloud even earlier. To think that they did not give it to Gandhi is the faux pas they can never ever justify. What was the big hurry to confer it on Obama? He has just started his term. Let him get more time to implement and achieve what he promised. Maybe they thought it was politically correct more than deserved. To those who say give Obama a chance, this will motivate him to try harder. Please, I think he is aware of the tremendous burden of people’s expectations that he carries on his shoulders every single day. I don’t think he needs added pressures and stupid Awards which he has himself agreed that he does not deserve.
The ridiculous thing is that nomination for this year were filed on February 1, 2009, just a few months of Obama being in office. What was the big hurry, I continue to wonder?

This is the most rubbish news I have heard in last few months. Praising is ok to keep up the good work but they have made fun of a nobel prize and all their achievers. It is really hurtful for them.
