Can you see the little baby with the other eggs? |
Coco in dad’s lap along with Gautam |
Coco, my little Lab puppy, is almost 4.5 months old. And, he is a beautiful boy, amazingly strong and has grown up so much in the last couple of months. I can no longer lift him :). His baby blue eyes are now a lovely shade of grey-green. I love the wild Zulu dance he does when he sniffs anything related to food. The best part about him that anything you feed him gets the exact same exuberant response :). They say that a dog always responds to food :), and Labs are hungry folks always willing to eat. From 4 meals a day, he is down to 3. Our hard work of potty training him has succeeded, and he is completely potty trained to do his business outside the house in our lawn. Of course, we always pick up after him. Being the excitable soul that he is, we are trying to teach him not to jump at anyone. He has learnt commands like sit and stay but conveniently ignores them when he wants to.
He simply loves outdoors. We take him for evening walks with us, and sometimes the boys take him to play in the nets with his ball. He troubles my youngest son the most. Actually, I don’t know who troubles which one more. He sleeps through the night in his box, and the best feeling is to wake up to his energetic excitement. His wagging tail hits various things like car wipers :). We do not allow him into our bedroom and the kitchen. And, I do try to give him homecooked meals including ragi, eggs, chicken etc. Coco is extremely naughty, adorable and so loving. It is great to have him in our family! And, he is a very friendly soul, always welcoming all strangers — human and animal.
We also have a budgie bird couple who recently became proud parents. I have never seen a tiny bird, and it looked like an alien to me. It makes funny noises, and mom is perched most of the time on top of this baby as well as her other eggs. Since, I told hubby not to get any more birds into our home, this is nature’s way of sneaking some through :).
So, that’s an update of our lovable pets.
i have so wished to have a dog in our house preferably a lab but Sathya says no way, no dogs in a rented house. he has raised a few at his home & knows that its equivalent to raising a kid. this post made me want to give your Coco a big hug :))
🙂 Nice to know about your pets
So nice to know! I love cats. But, my husband does not like.
WOnder when will he let me own one. 🙂
I’ve had a lot of pets at home. Coco’s photo reminded me of my dog who died last year of cardiac arrest:(. I have a cat at home now. We call him avatar cos his face looked so much like the character looks in Science fiction Avatar. Pets are such sweet friends when you need someone to share your thoughts with. They listen to you. really…

Coco is cute and is rowing well. Please ask the doctor when you can bring him down to just one food a day that is what is recommended for them. And please don’t give him tit bits from your table as it would become a bad habit for him. Also don’t encourage him by giving him any type of food. I am telling you all this because, it would become very difficult for you to leave him anywhere if he gets used to eating whatever he likes whenever he wants.
It is really nice to know that he is potty trained, and yes it is good he is not allowed in the kitchen and on the bed, once it is established he will never come, only if you call him he will come.
Puppies are so cute that sometimes we only spoil them as they can look very very innocent, and our heart can easily melt for them.
Please give him a big hug from me too.

I almost bought a Lab Puppy two months ago. And he would have been just about Coco’s age. I had photographed him and I still have that photo. This post reminded me how desperately I wanted to bring him home and couldn’t. Sigh! Hugs to Coco from me too. 🙂
That’s lovely news on Coco. Thank you for the update.

But seems like you (and many more) have fun:))))

Coco is cute…love Dogs..
and the little birdie looks cute.
have a good time!
🙂
@Sujatha Sure, it is just like taking care of a baby. But, you know what, they grow up faster than kids, and their love is totally unconditional :).
@Bhagya Thanks.
@Spicy Sweet Perhaps some day!
@Ashwini Oh yes, they are the best stress busters around. They are always there to listen and love. But, as pet owners, we must invest in training them to be well behaved.
@rama As a dog owner yourself, you are aware of so many issues. Yes, the vet has advised that till he is 9 months old, he will be on 3 meals. Labradors grow till almost 12 to 15 months and till that time, they need more calcium and protein in their diets. I am only giving him what the vet recommended along with exercise. He also gets one fruit or even a veg during the day. We never give him anything from our plate so that he never begs anyone. You are right that we end up spoiling puppies as they are so cute. As an owner, I know that the dog reflects me, and I want him to be well behaved. Both my husband and I are spending a lot of time in training him. Let us see how the journey continues. But, he is a pleasure to be around, so warm and sunny :).
@Juxtaposition I understand. When we were kids, we desperately wanted a dog and dad would just not allow us. I remember pining for a dog like crazy till we got one when we were much older. I am sure some day you will too. Thank you for your visit and comment.
@NRIGirl Thank you.
@bikram I am sure, you will have a dog one day soon. Maybe, when I visit London in the future, we will meet you and your dog :).
@Alka Wow, thanks :).
@Anulal Thanks!
@A Yes, you are missing out on some pure unadulterated love :). I think it also teaches the kids to be kinder to animals though I am waiting for my younger son to exhibit some kindness :).
@Harman Thanks! It is fun being around them for sure :).
jane.healy has left a new comment on your post “Pet updates!”:
Lovley post about your dog Rachna – we had two big dogs for a long time, I do miss them but feel that it would be unfair living in a flat in a busy sit.
@jane your comment just went missing. You are right that keeping big dogs in a flat is just not right for them. I am lucky to have the space for him.
Adorable Coco :)Loved reading your post as well as the readers comments. We have a Lab for the last eight years and strangely he is a pure vegetarian.Refusing to eat anything that is non-veg his diet is mostly rice ,chapatis ,vegetables and soya chunks.His previous owners were Jain, he came to us when he was just eight months old .We still give him three light meals instead of just one .Having a pet is wonderful and rewarding experience.
I am not fond of dogs, but would love to have birds, sometimes I wanted to buy them too…
This posts so reminded me our Joey, whom we had for a few months before giving away. I had done three posts on the little adorable rascal. Coco looks absolutely great. Have fun!
for me getting along with dog is really scary, but i know people who keep them love them like a family member…its good to be with pets…:))
I had a German Shepard.
He was seven when he fell sick and it was due to over dose of medicine by the Vet, we lost DUKE
@kavita Wow, eight years old, that must be wonderful. I bet your Lab must be calmer and more mature than our playful Coco :). I was giving him Pedigree everyday for one meal initially, but now I do that only for emergencies. Yes, indeed, they are such a pleasure to have.
@Renu Maybe, you will enjoy birds.
@Irfan Yes, it is a love-hate relationship for some people with pets.
I have been hoping to get a dog at home.. but B is completely against it 🙁 I hope he will change that outlook when we move to our own place… and I am also hoping that Tee will blackmail her dad into it sometime 😉
Coco is adorable for sure. Pets transform us to energy bugs within seconds isnt it? Such a pleasure having them around.
@Aathira Yep, anything for the daughter! Wait till she asks her dad :).
@Insignia You are so right. They lift our spirit, make us energetic and really can be wonderful to be around if your pet is well trained and gentle. It is a nuisance to be around ill-mannered pets.
Coco seems to be a wonderful pet and the best part is that you all are having a good time with him!!
Incidentally, I like pets from far! 😀
i am with A..:) and thanks rachna 🙂
@Shilpa Yes, and are you allergic to them or just scared? :).
@Ramesh Well, you are allergic too? Bad, you are missing out on a lot of unconditional love 😉 You’re welcome! For what?
It is nice to note that you and your family have fun with pets.:)
@KP Thank you!
u sure that an alien along with those eggs ? 🙂
And ya, having a dog is such a heavenly joy..been having one since i was 5 yrs old.. still enjoy watching their antics at the age of 30 🙂 Just wish i could teach atleast one of them to “sit” !!!
We have a dog and a bunch of fish. The fish tend to reproduce every couple of weeks so the tank is always full of various sizes. The kids find it rather fascinating. Our dog is getting older and she minds about as well as the kids.
Sandy
Hi Rachna, cute Lab you have. His ancestors from where I am, ha ha.
Wow! Lucky dog, getting home cooked food to eat.
Here most dogs eat dog food sold in large bags…thats all.
And yes, Labs are very friendly, adorable dogs, very protective of their owners. Good watch dogs too.
I love dogs, but prefer Dobermans, no hair drop…as well being guard dogs.
There’s that saying, ‘if you want a friend, get a dog’.
Have fun, Rachna….so happy you remember me.
Thank you, you have a pleasant weekend, and keep a song in your heart.
Best regards.
Lee.
@Pythoroshan Welcome to my blog! So, is your dog really 25 years old? That’s amazing. I had a Yorkshire terrier too when in college who passed away at the age of 10 years.
@Mom of 12 Welcome to my space, Sandy. Yes, we thought of getting a fish tank as well. But, then somehow got birds home and since then haven’t wanted any fish. I can understand your kids’ enthusiasm. My sons are so excited to see these tiny bird babies. The second baby also came day before yesterday. It is a lot of fun.
@Uncle Lee Yep, we get the packaged stuff here as well. I have got him Pedigree but only give him rarely. I am a little wary of all these packed things. You are right; labs are great dogs. I also wanted a dog that is able to handle naughty kids. Though, he is very excitable himself, but as he grows up, he will be calmer and gentler. We are also investing time in training him to make him well mannered. The one thing I wish I could do away with has to be the profuse hair shedding. Thanks for dropping by. Always a pleasure to have you.
Too sweet a post and the fellow is equally sweet! The name suits him so well! Pets have always got the same attention and care as my children in my family. Do give hugs to your Coco on my behalf. My pet looked exactly the same as Coco when she was of his age. Please look at my Chiquititta whenever you find the time.

Just observing nature and its natural proceedings is so soothing.
I am sure Coco believes he is a child 🙂 Just look how he is sitting!! We have one, who looks and behaves a lot like Coco, at my place too 🙂
@Ruprekha Oh yes, Labs and GRs look so similar when younger. I did see Chiquita’s pics, and she is so adorable. Loved your post as well! Welcome to my blog!
@Haddock Yes, that’s true!
@IndianHomemaker Welcome to my space. Yes, he is the baby of our family.
