Jaswant Singh has managed to get great publicity for his new book and sure, it is flying off the shelf like hot cakes. He has got suspended from BJP in the bargain. So, he has talked about Jinnah and said that the responsibility of Partition is equally shared by Nehru and Sardar Patel. Fine, who cares. Is he a historian, no! So, why make such a hullabullo about it. Who cares anyway about Partition? We only know the status quo. We don’t long for Pakistan to be assimilated with India. Frankly, it is a non-issue for today’s generation. BJP acted in haste by suspending Jaswant without letting him offer an explanation. They have opened a Pandora’s box whereby everyday a new leader slings mud on each other. It has become a free for all and a free fall for BJP.

History must be best left to historians who use evidence and not rhetoric in documentation of events. And, what is the harm in listening to a different opinion. Let’s hear this guy out, that’s all! How long will these politicians project all things to do with Pakistan black? Can one really say that such a huge event in history is the responsibility of one man alone? I doubt it and I hardly care. What is important is that we are stuck with each other as neighbors and have to find amicable ways of co-existing peacefully.

BJP in the bargain has managed to pull itself deeper into the muck. We do need a strong Opposition for the good functioning of the government and BJP seems to be failing in that duty.
