For all those who live in India, a bandh is a painful reality. Whether the ruling party or the opposition asks for it, a common person like you and me suffer. A Bandh is another name for “goondagardi, ” plain and simple. The most corrupt CM in the most corrupt state Karnataka is gloating that the bandh called by his party is successful and was a spontaneous reaction of people in his favor. Please, don’t kid yourself. Your goons forced people to down shutters in shops. Others kept their establishments closed to avoid damages due to arsonists who have a free rein on such occasions. They burnt buses and even beat up a Conductor and a bus driver. They ensured that buses were kept off roads, as the common man fretted and fumed. The auto drivers — the most despicable folks on earth, made a neat packet by charging exorbitant rates from desperate people. So were some of the private cabbies. My husband was flying back on Saturday morning, and the Airport is a good 50 km. away. In this scenario, I was tensed. Luckily, he got a Meru cab, which did not even charge extra. And, he was spared miscreants throwing stones.
The ruling government destroys our public property and forces us to lose money through lost business. Really, what kind of times are we living in? And, BJP supports a corrupt CM, and this shameless man comes and gloats on Television. Is there some other place I can go to? Is there any pride left in living in a country of thugs and goons and insidious corruption?
Unfortunately we have no where to go. We are stuck forever with these corrupt parties. They are all shameless. Every time during the election we are left with no choice also, for even if none of the parties get a majority, we have to face further worse condition, having this milli julli kichidi parties all coming together to loot the country. The thought Lallu, Mulayam,Mayawati,etc.,sends shivers down my spine. Can’t even think of Deva gauda and the gang waiting to pounce on the gaddhi.
Looks like even the Almighty has washed his hands off India.
The greatest example to show that our model of development has been exclusive. I wont endorse the governor though. The democracy in India is turning into one of populism and fear
@rama You are right, of course. We are stuck forever with corrupt parties. I used to think that a majority government like BJP in Karnataka would be better off, but look at the new depths to which they have plunged. But, I’ve not much hopes with JD(S) or Congress either. It is such a frustrating situation here. These people are driving us to such huge levels of frustration that I hope some major revolution is in the offing.
@Jon I don’t want to comment on the governor’s actions. They have other avenues to fight him including going to the President. I just hate what they do to our lives while they travel in the comfort of their A/c cars with security. Imagine those who needed to go to hospitals or those who had a flight or train to catch. Imagine the nightmare they were put through!
Why don’t we see mass frenzy for anti-corruption, in India, the likes of which we see associated with religion or caste-based issues? We see millions pouring onto the roads for silly reasons like some place got desecrated, etc. These same jobless people can’t see that the greater problem are the corrupt politicians because of whom development doesn’t reach them or they are unemployed.
When this sense prevails on every Indian this place will be fit for living.

Such a valid point. The people are forced to close down..and the ones who called out for the bandh..declares it successful. I don’t know who is a fool here. The people who they are trying to convince or themselves. I don’t think that’s their agenda too! I’m sure their smart enough to understand that people are beyond on this convincing. Their purpose is to create inconvenience and frustration so they will feel better. What a waste of resources!
@Bikram They destroy property to intimidate people to make their own bandhs successful. You think anyone cares two hoots for their agenda. If, we have to have a strike, we have so many issues to fight for — corrupt politicians is definitely not one among them.
@Gayatri They do it because they can get away with it. All the looting and arson goes unpunished, and they get some sort of high for their inflated egos. They never have and they never will think about a common person.
Let us not read this as one party or the other.
It is we, who have to understand what is right or wrong for us.
In my opinion,we are too selfish to fight for our rights and may be that is because of our colonial mind set.
Goondaraj indeed. I remember when Paritala Ravi was killed, the mob went on rampage and burnt down buses. Who is to pay for this damage? Apparently you and me, the tax payer. God knows what they do with the money they siphon off in scams. Atrocious.

on bandh days you can also see some people at bus stands and railway stations prepared to transport people on bikes. but you would go shocked hearing their charge for doing so..

I can completely understand, being brought up under the reign of CPI(M) I too well know the feeling, felt bangalore would be different – huh! who was I kidding.
