Madam Railway Minister is so busy trying to be the CM of Bengal that she is an absentee Union Railway Minister. Apparently, she is guilty of missing the maximum Cabinet meetings, and there are almost 80 K vacancies in Railway jobs. Not filled because the effort to fill them has not been made. The whole environment in the Railway Ministry is to delay matters because the head hardly has time to devote.
There is nothing wrong in her political aspirations. But, it is criminal for her to hold onto a portfolio where she cannot devote enough attention. Simple things like anti-collision devices are not fitted in all the trains as yet. Though, the same have been fitted in the Konkan railways trains and the North East trains since 11 years! Just shows a lack of attention towards safety. The last two accidents and so many others could have been prevented with this simple device.
There is hardly any effort to strengthen the massive Indian railway infrastructure. Safety must get prime importance, and loss of lives must be avoided at all costs. We don’t need the Railway Minister to pay lip service, and we actually need someone to take some action. If it is so hard for her to take appropriate steps and contribute to the betterment of the Railways, then she must step down.
We’ve had enough of the power-greedy, selfish politicians in this country. What is the PM doing?

9 Thoughts on “Train accident — yet again!

  1. Its the sorry state of affairs… I too read about anti-collision devices in today’s paper and was amazed at how only a handful of trains have them… In India, we don’t really care about the life of common man and that shows everywhere…

  2. the worst part of it, lalu yadav was a better minister than her.
he took the charge seriously. turned the railways around to a profit making entity, (even after the iim-a said not possible) and then went on to lecture the iim-a..
    oh what a situation..

heart goes out to the victims families.

  3. sad indeed yar..aisa hi life chalta hi rehta hi..kya karega..in mumbai, i used to watch bodies on the sidetracks of local stations many times..v r loosing our human sensitivity i think

  4. @Jaanvi You’ve hit the nail on the head. We really do not care about the life of a common man in India. Look at the Bhopal tragedy or the train tragedies. No one cares for the poor or the man on the street.

@wise donkey Oh yes, for all his failings, Lalu was a better Railway minister. I wish he could have been around for one more term. Yes, really feel sad for all the victims and their families. Truly tragic!

@Ramesh But aise chalna nahin chahiye na. Yes, these accidents have made us immune. We are becoming desensitized to the loss of human lives. That is really saddening, and so is the fact that I can’t do anything about it.

  5. Such accidents will continue to take place as it is the result of a weak govt lead by a weak PM under coalition compulsions and most of the ministers not bothered about PMs authority

  6. I really wonder how these politicians are able to sleep at nights, I mean do they have a conscience??

  7. @BK Chowla The PM is definitely asleep and unmindful of incompetent ministers like Raja, Sharad Pawar, Mamata and the list goes on. And, the country keeps going to dogs.

@bbsearchingself You are right, their consciences are dead; only their egos along with the corruption they propagate thrives.

  8. Hello Rachna, Wow! I really love your blog header picture. Beautiful! I love pics like this…..the tranquility and solitude.

Re the Md train minister….she should take the trains herself, travel on surprise checks, one way to learn.
Most MPs only love to dress up, cut ribbons, look important…work hard, promise Heaven and Earth just before elections….then they do a Houdini, ha ha.

The Press should stir fry her like what our papers here do, take no prisoners…even the Chief of Police gets bbq’ed, the Mayor too…
with photographs to accompany the pics and the ‘get off your butts and for Gods sake do something”!

I believe the press can do a lot, without fear or favour get things done….print their pics and who is responsible.
Oh well, politicians! Ha ha, Lee.

  9. @Uncle Lee Thanks, I love the pic too. And, yes, the press is frying her. They are showing her incompetence here. But, the PM hardly seems to be concerned. Talk about the evils of coalition politics.

Do not leave without commenting. I love a good conversation :).
