Just yesterday, inside our layout a 27-year-old man collapsed in his bathroom. He suffered from a massive heart attack and till last evening he was on ventilator and was severely brain damaged. We did not know him personally but it came as such a shock to know that we are so vulnerable and that such a young person was also susceptible. He had no diagnosed history of any problems like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease etc. It sort of makes one wonder what exactly goes wrong with our bodies. I know a lot of things are genetic and the remaining are lifestyle related. Keeping oneself fit, eating right and exercising is not only for aesthetic gains but also life saving. Being overweight and lazy multiplies manifolds one’s chances of risking disease and death.

My biggest fear is to live like a vegetable. Life is meant to be lived fully, to be enjoyed by playing with kids, traveling and exploring. One cannot do this saddled with health issues. I enforce discipline in eating habits and exercising in my house. I know I am responsible for inculcating in my kids how to eat correctly. They will grow up but these habits will stand them in good stead all their lives. Gurdev loves to eat. I play the devil by restricting portions and enforcing daily walks. I think it is important for us to be aware and to take steps to ensure the health of the entire family. As women, we can ensure and have the responsibility to ensure that our family stays healthy. I hope we all treat this is a must do because ill effects of bad habits and a bad lifestyle are bound to catch up with us, sooner rather than later.
