Yesterday was Father’s Day. I called up my dad in Mumbai to wish him and speak to him. When I said, “Happy Father’s Day, Papa.” He laughed and said thank you. He added that this is an American concept, essentially. They are hardly in touch with their dads, so they need this day to remember their fathers. But us Indians, we are always climbing on the heads of our kids. Our kids can hardly afford to forget us :).

His logic amused me. Is it true that Indian parents are an overwhelming part of their kids life, even when living away from them?

  1. Haha…hats off to ur dad…

Yea even in this modern world its hard to shake off ur parents
Down here the kids(professional) are more busy than their parents. So their marriage, delivery, bringing up the kids are all done by the parents

(I donno how its there)…A pleasant bondage!

  2. True and M glad that it is;)

  5. @Jon A pleasant bond, surely. And, in India, parents are part of all family events, which is a good thing infact. I feel, I would miss out a lot in life, if I did not have my father’s or mother-in-law’s wisdom and advice to fall back upon.

  10. A very nice photo of you and your father. We celebrated Father’s Day for my husband with a gift from me, a card from the dog (!)and my daughter wrote a beautiful card to her stepdad, who is to her, her father. Ashton made the dog’s paw print from some ink and put it into a card!
