It has been fun watching the football world cup since it started on 11th June this year. India, as usual, failed to qualify for the World Cup. There is a lot of football to watch with the best teams in the world competing. The things I like best about the World Cup are:
  • The timings are great. Two matches begin around 5 and 7 according to IST. I only miss the late night matches.
  • The matches are just 1.5 hours each, so not time consuming either.
  • As usual, I am supporting the Latin American teams. Though, I must say that most teams have similar styles of play. It is a pleasure to watch Brazil retain some of the traditional style of playing, which relies less on force and more on technique.
  • I love Shakira’s World Cup song “Waka waka.” It has the spirit of Africa and football in it.
What I hate the most is the annoying trumpet vuvuzela. It is loud and the irritating buzzing sound gives me a headache. I can’t imagine how the players cope with it. I wish they could ban it.
Meanwhile, let’s enjoy the football and hope that we get to see India too in the future competing in World Cup finals. This time for Africa!
PS Did you know that North Koreans back home don’t even get to watch their team’s matches as they have no telecast? How sad!

  1. Enjoy the frenzy!!

  2. U got some facts wrong… Brazil no longer retains the traditional Latin American flair.
Argentinians play that way still. Brazil is more or less European with a few exceptions like Kak, Robinho

I routed for Spaniards…but thanks to some baffling player selections they failed out yesterday

Vuvuzuela sounds like flies buzzing..Thank god we dont have them here:)

Hey Shakira is awesome with her hips ..hehe

  3. Rach
    I differ on
    * The timings are great Two matches begin around 5 and 7 and last one at 11.50 so it means that I have to miss 2 matches 🙁

*It is a pleasure to watch Brazil retain some of the traditional style of playing, which relies less on force and more on technique : Agree to join that Brazil has lost its flair but Argentina is still playing with technique
I love Shakira’s World Cup song “Waka waka.” It has the spirit of Africa and football in it. You should try Wavin flag, which is atleast 1000000000000……00 times better than Waka Waka and has the spirit of human nature.

trumpet vuvuzela is awesome Lolzzzzzz I recorded it to stop shaurya from crying 🙂

My fav one is Germany and Argentina!!!

    Lets see!!

  4. @bb You too!

@Jon and Bhupesh I was seeing Robinho the other day and was really pleased with his dodging skills. I did not see too much of traditional football by Argentina the other day. I think, I need to watch more of their game. As in hockey, even in football technique is getting lost as the sturdier Caucasian take over. It has become much more aggressive and fitness oriented in nature. Yeah, Spain was a big disappointment against the Swiss. They did have some good chances but could not convert.

The timings are good for me :). Come on, Bhupesh, Waka waka is a really nice song. I liked that you use vuvu sound to scare your son. Maybe, I could try the same on Gautam 🙂

  5. I am not a great Football fan. But, when I see the craze around, even I watch the game–not really understand it though.

  6. @BK chowla I guess that is the way, we all started following various games — peer pressure :).

    @tangyorangesour Indeed!

  7. I also like Latin American teams. 🙂 Shakira song is cool.

  8. Hi Rachna, that vuvu…whatever is driving me nuts!
Like being next to a beehive, ha ha.
Pity India, China, Russia are not in….would be great to see China vs US,…..
    Have fun, Lee.

  12. Vuvuzela is just so irritating. The timings in my country are different, though.

  13. @Chandrika nice

@Uncle Lee Yeah, it’s disgusting — the vuvu.

@Ramesh It seems everyone loves the Latin American teams.

@Angel Great to have you on my blog. I guess, it is unanimous, vuvuzela is very bugging.

  14. Hey watch out for Chile…awesome team awesome game…a latin american style
