I read a report that thousands of people are being fired in IT companies, well not officially fired, but “made” to resign in the last few months in India. The most horrifying part is that most of the people fired are actually good performances, get good reviews and rarer still get bonuses in these times of recession. What seems to be the problem is intra-office politics, more specifically having problems with immediate project managers or immediate bosses who are plainly jealous or insecure and most times their reviews take these high fliers down. There was a lady who got a wonderful appraisal and then was forced to resign because of her dress code. I mean, how ridiculous is that !

An IT major head said that these are not layoffs but basically firing done due to discipline problems or unable to adjust with the culture of a company and they have been happening all along. I mean, sure, one has to abide by rules and regulations but this is heights of promoting sycophancy and favoritism on seeing only one aspect of an employee’s work. They are downright insensitive and callous and once again go to prove that Indian companies will always be favourable to “jee hazoor” (yes boss) kind of people.

More than ever, it is important to be tactful and prudent in one’s interaction with others in today’s workplaces. PR and networking as always are supreme.
