The past week has been crazy busy. Have not found much time to blog or read. Will make amends as soon as possible. The good part is that the kids’ FAs are over. The bad part is that the SA starts in about 3 weeks. The younger brat’s birthday was super hectic and fun. Before going to bed at night, he gave me a long hug and said it was the best birthday ever. He also thanked me for his much-cherished Lego gift. It made me tear up a bit as I shooed him away. It is fun celebrating others’ birthdays. Oh and by the way, I really loved our time spent bowling that day. The husband defeated us flat though.

The #BudgetAir menace continues though #Etihad team on twitter is actively helping out. God knows, how much longer this will drag. The first notice has been sent to BudgetAir’s office in the Netherlands.

About little sonny, the guy has binoculars for eyes. He can spot a tiny insect on the ceiling! And, he is fearless. He is a reliable bloke in the sense that you can ask him to do something and expect him to do it (well, most times!). But, he sometimes gives a really tough time because he is headstrong and very defiant in face of authority. I use my Brahmastra of “You have to do it because I tell you so” when he keeps up with his incessant questioning especially when it comes to timeouts and punishments. The elder son is great at talking and reasoning, but takes very long to move his butt. 🙂 Guess, who the skill has come home to bite? Life always does come a full circle.

Okay, I went ahead and did something monumental. I went and straightened my hair. I have been thinking about it for ages and finally went in for it. It took a whopping 4 hours with my hair volume for the process. I was almost in tears by the end of it. I am enjoying the no-bad hairday look. All at home are having fun while I do imitations of shampoo ads for them swinging my hair from side to side. I do miss the volume and life of my curls though. Well, this is just for change. I hope my hair has not been damaged too much in the bargain. I was wincing with all the chemical application.

And, Bangalore has been going nuts with powercuts. Even the Generator backup in our community cannot cope with so many hours. Hence there are a few hours a day when there is no power. It does hit work when that happens. Let’s hope that they do something about this soon.

That’s all for now. The weekend is almost here.

49 Thoughts on “Life — here and there

  1. Straightened your hair? Photo kahaan hai jee?

P.S. If we meet when I come to Bangalore / Bengaluru, I would especially love to meet the younger one 🙂

    • Photo bhi daalungi. Have just been too lazy to click one. 🙂

Of course, you must come and meet us when you come to Bangalore. The younger brat takes some time to open up but once he warms up to you, he is a lot of fun. 😀 Thanks, Vishal.

  2. Pic of you with straight hair?
Bangalore power cuts are legendary! but, this year it seems to be going a bit too far!

Glad that your little one enjoyed his birthday. Such moments are so precious na? 🙂
I suck at bowling. I take it to a new level of bad-playing! LOL!

    • Yes, ma’am. Soon. Pata nahin yaar. This year they are driving us nuts.

I did above average at bowling. Would love to hone my skills further. 🙂 So good to see you after so long, Pix. Hope you are well.

  3. That’s a sweet and cute round up of news at home☺☺

I too did my hair straightening few weeks ago ☺Hope my hair is strong enough to take those chem effects ?

  4. Would love to see your new look. Even i was planning to get my hair straight for a change, but fear the bad effects of chemicals.

Rachna, the straightened hair photo, birthday cake picts needed. Life is chaotic else its boring. isnt it?

  6. Aww, we need to meet soon again, just for the straight hair! Also, don’t talk about SA and all first thing in the morning! Tsk tsk! Giving me nightmares 😛

As for power cuts, I feel your pain. I do. Honestly, it’s only the power backup at home that lets me get any work done, so I sympathise. Hope this gets sorted soon!

    • Yes, we toh need to meet soon, anyway. 🙂 hehe I know the trepidation of us poor mothers at the mention of SA. 🙂

I hope so too, Shy. We used to have an inverter which conked off. Frankly, our gen backup is excellent. But BESCOM has been so erratic with the power supply that it has been overworked. What a mess!

  7. Oh put up a picture Rachna…I want to see your new look 🙂 Now that you straightened your hair be prepared for the phase when a part of it is straight and the new growth is curly…Like a question mark of sorts…I don’t mean to scare you but just want to prepare you from my own experience 🙂

I hope the Budget air issue sorts out soon and the power cuts , well, I guess it will continue for a few more days… Hope they find some kind of solution!

    • The picture is up. The hair looks great now but I know what will happen a few months down the line. I guess, I will just go for a short haircut then. 🙂 This is great for a change.

Yes, praying that this BudgetAir mess gets sorted soon.

  8. Let me add my voice to the demands for that picture. Hurry up. A no bad hair day is such a dream. I’d loooove to straighten mine except I have very few to begin with!! It’s still tempting, though. Hugs to the birthday boy. Children are wonderful when they’re small yet they’re sweet in a whole different way when they grow up, isn’t it? Their hugs and shows of affection become that much more precious. Did I tell you I enjoy your packed-with-news posts?

    • So, your voice was heard. 🙂 I am quite loving it just now but who knows how it will look down a few washes. Oh yes, kids are fabulous and exasperating. And the emotions co-exist for every single day. 🙂

Thank you. I am glad you enjoy these posts,Tulika.

  9. Convey my belated birthday wishes to young brat and awaiting the pic 🙂

  10. First of all what is fa or sa no clue..

    And where’s the pic. :)..

You will not beleive this but we had a power cut too on saturday for hourssss. . 🙂

And happy birthday to the young man . Many happy returns of the day. .

    • FA matlab formative assessment or unit tests, SA matlab summative assessment terminals or finals. 🙂 Thank you for the wishes. Here toh we are suffering daily.

Wow Rachna, waiting for the photo. But I can suggest an easy way. I have a hair ironer with me and I get my hair straight once in a while. 🙂
But I am not sure if hair ironing is the same as straightening, is it?
    Cheers ya 🙂
    Bhavana.

  12. Kindly do not talk about SAs in my vicinity :P.

And that hair pic on FB, GORGEOUS. I could never have guessed it was that long, the texture made it look so much shorter! Something I’d been wanting to try but never gathered the courage, went shorter instead :P.

    • Hehe Same for all moms. 😛

Yep, the curls actually hide the length. I could have cut it short but them I felt longer hair would look nice straightened. I already had the length so left it as is. Great change. 🙂

  13. Wow! You do have the shampoo commercial hair look and it is so chic! Looks like power cuts are all across. Have been facing one since 10 am. Thank God for the inverter, else no power to charge laptop and no fan would make for a big miserable day. Fingers crossed for your refund.

    • Thanks, Shilpa. I quite love it too. This year has been particularly worse for Bangalore. We did have an inverter which does not work anymore. Since we had 24-hour powerbackup in our layout, it was not needed. But now, they have curtailed the backup timings hence a huge issue.

  14. oh the budgetAir thing is still not solved 🙁 how poor is their service 🙁
    powercuts can be so frustrating.
I loved your straight hair look 😀 4 hours wow!!

  15. That was the first thing I saw in the morning as soon as I woke up…so did you do a perm straightening? I always had a big fancy for straight hair…but I don’t like the straightened hair….the natural ones 🙂 but you look fabulous though..lil one seems to be fun. And my older one is a lazy bum minus the intellect. Man..it’s crazy with me also…ufff….

    • Perm straightening? I don’t know about that. They just call it hair straightening here. 🙂 I love straight hair if you have volume else it can look quite bad.

I know how kids can drive you up the wall. Kya karen? Grin and bear it.

  16. Looks like a very hectic time for you. AND, if the powercuts continue like this, we will soon become nocturnal beings, unable to stand bright sunlight 🙂

  17. A hectic schedule! I know what that means… 🙁

  18. This is not done Rachna. Where’s the pic?

  19. Saw the new look in FB. Very nice, Rachna. 🙂 We never experienced power cut in Bangalore, that was one of the nicest things in Bangalore.
Hope the Budget Air issue gets sorted out soon.

  20. The hair straightening thing did come out very well, didn’t it? 🙂 Enjoy the new look. Hope your refund issue gets resolved soon.
I have been hearing about the power problems in Bangalore. For us in TN it is such a normal, expected, accepted fact of life that we have even stopped complaining, I think!

    • Yes, I quite love the change. 😀 The refund issue is just dragging on and on. I guess legal options are looming large.

I would have been very quiet had I not lost precious working hours in the day time, I guess.

  21. Life seems to be going at full circle for you..the icing on the cake, Rachna:)

  22. First, I must say – like your new look 🙂
The power cuts are a killer, but I guess they’re needed to shed some of that load.
Budget air – well, as my favourite saying goes these days, Satan is polishing his pitchfork for them 🙂

  23. All at home are having fun while I do imitations of shampoo ads for them swinging my hair from side to side….Love this! It is but natural! This also suits you, but I love curls, since I don’t have it!

I also found it funny seeing our own two sons behaving entirely differently! But this makes life interesting. They are a blend of the two of us, I remember!

All the best for the budget air problem. Hope it gets solved soon.

Going to Bangalore on Thursday! We don’t have powercuts in Chennai, yet.

  24. I saw your pic and the straightening seems to suit you a lot 🙂

It’s interesting how Children ask so many questions for a simple task, just reminded of my childhood when mom would shout and say just do it, when I ask a lot of similar questions 🙂

And good luck with the BudgetAir episode, keep trying, you’ll definitely get the refund!

  25. Love your new look. Also just adore your kids. I hope to make it to Bangalore soon. looking forward to meet you 🙂

  26. Its looking great on you ! I did it couple of times, but the last time was terrible where it ended up looking like a black paint on my skull 🙂

Do not leave without commenting. I love a good conversation :).
