Sorry to say that, but you are one! Your attempt to hold a press conference to give a boost to your image failed miserably. You inspire no confidence with your insipid demeanor and even more insipid words. There are no excuses for the highest authority in the Cabinet to hide behind. You shielded corruption and brought back the same old tainted minister back in the Cabinet in the second term. It is not coalition dharma but your lack of ability to stand up for ideals that is to blame. Scams are breaking out at regular intervals. Inflation is at its peak. And, all you do is hide behind Madam’s pallu. If you could not do anything against corruption, at least you should have had the dignity to resign in protest. The Grand Old Party has become the party of the clueless. Seven years into government, if the PM says he is helpless then what about the powerless common man on the streets. Yet, you cling on to power saying that you will complete your entire term. I wonder what else we are destined to see and suffer in your remaining tenure. Not that the opposition parties are any better, because we are suffering an incompetent and corrupt government in Bangalore. So, we continue to live in a country steeped in corruption and ethical deficit. You agree that there is a governance deficit. What stops you from bringing about reforms like the Jan Lokpal bill to have better processes in place to punish the corrupt? What stops you from passing better legislation to tackle the highhandedness of the Ministers and bureaucrats? Only your lack of will or inertia! You have disappointed us, Mr. PM. You — a man of wisdom and clean image, much was expected of you. But, like all other politicians, you have let down the people of this country!

29 Thoughts on “Mr. lame duck Prime Minister!

  1. He knows his game very well… Blaming it all on d coalition politics.

  2. Hope someone would copy this link and sent to the PM’s personal email

  3. Nothing stops him xcept the fear that he will lose his ‘seat’. I always wonder why an ex-RBI governor so very respected had to jump into politics and ruin everything. money I guess

  4. an honest captain for a corrupt team…

no use of being the captain honest, if at all he is….

  5. He uses the media very well too. Whenever a crises comesup he gives some media coverage

To be frank we are bit enamored by him

  6. yeah its hight time he resigns .. he is not doing any good .. being a good person and Honesty does not pay in this country ..

I too now feel why did he have to come to politics and get his reputation on the line with all this .. He is such a honest person doesnot belong in the corrupt world ..

the madam ji is only using him …

he shud go or become corrupt himself at least EARN some money and be rich…

    Bikram’s

  7. Hi Rachnaji, i have an award for you.

  8. Ankh vale andhe ko ab thoda thoda dikhne laga hai… 🙂

    Enough is enough now…

  9. @Jon Yes, get away by passing the buck. These politicians are so adept at it. We’ve all heard the common lines like this is the conspiracy of opposition leaders. I will bring the truth out, blah, blah…

@Tomz I am sure, he has listened to a lot worse than this from his colleagues in the Cabinet. But, he should know that the people in the country are frustrated with him.

@bbsearchingself And, that’s the saddest part — the greed to hang on to power. It has to be money; he has definitely earned no respect!

@Irfannuddin If you cannot lead and take action, you have no business being the PM.

  10. My belief is getting very strong that we people of Sub-Continent are really unfortunate regarding leadership.

  11. @Jon This move did not work very well. His weaknesses are there for all to see.

@bikram I am not sure if I am very sympathetic to him. He had 7 years to do something. He has plunged the country into even deeper corruption and poverty. How does he live with himself?

    @Anulal Thanks a lot!

@sushant Enough is enough. Doosre andhe uth rahe hain, toh inhe bhi hilna pad raha hai.

  12. There is absolutely nothing to say about the government or the opposition. Years have passed we are yet to have an honest government of the people by the people and for the people. There is nobody to lead the country to lead it to its highest glory.
If the same kind of parties keep coming together, then the only thing left is to boycott the elections itself. If our fore-fathers could throw the British out, why can’t we throw our own country men behaving worse than the British did?
Some good educated and capable people should come together and form a party and win the elections.

  13. Yeah Rachna, exactly my thoughts- I think Dr. Manmohan Singh should just stick to teaching economics!

  14. yes we need reforms in every sector.
    well written

  15. Singapore Paper this morning called him “MKK” Main Kee Karraan

  16. @Talha Yes, leaders with a strong will, a clear conscience, and a zeal to something have all but vanished.

@rama Boycott elections or another option could be to vote en masse in huge numbers. This will teach the political parties that our vote will count too, that the educated class can follow up the noises it makes with actions. Last time, we did see that some conscientious people, I believe Loksatta party put up some clean candidates, yet they found no takers. The existing parties have huge financial muscle and infrastructure required to win elections. So, we have to force the hand of governments to carry out electoral reforms and bring in stringent reforms to punish the corrupt and seize their assets. WE can do it if we come together and fight it in a united manner. If we could do it to achieve independence, we can do it now because we have technology on our side and rights given by our democracy. We need to break our inertia or show a strong will and together we can succeed.

  17. @meerasranjan Exactly, if you cannot be tough and a good administrator, you have no business to be in the highest position of power.

@sm Thank you! We need us to come together to enforce the reforms.

@BKChowla Yes Sir, how true. He is a laughing stock everywhere.

  18. what’s the meaning of Main Kee Karran?

  19. @Jon Main Kee Karaan is in Punjabi — it means what can I do or what did I do?

  20. Yes, it sure was the lamest excuse he could have come up with. Truly disappointing.

Just yday we were joking at work that India must be the richest country in the world. The Portuguese, French, British….came, plundered and left. Now we have ministers, politicians, organisations, traders….. who continue to loot. Still we must have more, bcoz everybody seems to be gearing up for the next elections, to overthrow a band of robbers and take up the tasks themselves!

  21. I think its a case of dominance here (dominance by Madam)

  22. @RGB More than the country having enough, it is the funds meant for 1/2 bn people, which are getting diverted in the greed of these politicians. It is sickening that their lust for money is endless. Criminals, politicians, bureaucrats, industrialists — the nexus is strong and self-serving.

@Haddock Dominance and no accountability for madam and her family, and spineless behavior by a man who perhaps thinks that he does not deserve the job in the first place.

  23. Thank you Tamil Home Recipes.

  24. lolz Rachna guess what we have in common both our prime ministers are lame.. well he’s now our ex prime minister.. he was building a 2.6 million dollar house while there are so many homeless people here!! We just got our first woman prime minister!!!! Hope u get a good leader for ur country soon.

  25. @Emmy I hope so too. All the best to your country.

  27. Yeah it’s a pity that PM gave such a lame response , and he proudly said and I quote “I am not as much of a culprit as I am being made out” , perhaps with that statement he agrees to some allegations I guess!
