As someone who works online, banks online, and pays bills online; online shopping is a natural extension of my love affair with the internet. I am not a shopping addict but a sucker for a good deal, and I do enjoy shopping regularly in the comfort of my home. Booking tickets, buying electronics items, gadgets and books is what I started with. Slowly I started buying clothes and fashion jewelry online as well. By and large, my experiences have been really good. And recently I chanced upon a shopping voucher from Jabong.com. I have been seeing their advertisements but was not motivated enough to take a plunge. The voucher gave me a perfect opportunity to try out the portal.

Day before yesterday, I browsed through the site and saw that they had a sale going on. To tell you the truth, all shopping portals have sales on :). The site is easy to maneuver around and aesthetically pleasing. Since I was specifically looking for clothes, I jumped straight to that section. What I liked best is the number of views in detail that one can have of the garment. I haven’t see this much clarity from these many angles on any other website. The sizes are very clearly spelled out, and I finished my shopping and ordering within 10 minutes including the browsing time.
The package
Another view
One funny thing is that the voucher I had exceeded the value of the garment I purchased, yet I had to choose the COD option for final payment. They did not have any other option for checkout. They normally call and confirm the order for COD. I missed their call, but they confirmed the order on their own perhaps realizing that the voucher value was more than the amount I had to pay. I received the order in less than 24 hours by courier. That was super quick and included efficient notifications via email and SMS and call by the courier guy before coming. The package was neatly wrapped in bubble wrap and outer packaging. And the end product exactly looked the way it was in the pictures on the website, with good stitching and material quality, and the size fitted perfectly. So, there you have it! First time there and a really great shopping experience on Jabong.com. I look forward to shopping again!
I cannot really think of any deficiencies anywhere so I would rate the shopping experience 4.5/5 considering that it is sale time and yet they were able to manage inventory and shipping in such short span of time. In terms of range, though they have a decent range of products, I felt that the clothes were generally more expensive than other portals. Similar label on a competitor’s website is retailing cheaper. And, they could do with more choice in clothes as well.
the kurti I purchased

All in all, If you like online shopping and clothes, you should give Jabong.com a try. Always remember to check the cancellation, return and refund policy before making any online purchases.

Update: Many have shown apprehension about what happens if the product does not fit. Answer is it can be exchanged upto 30 days (no questions asked) if it has the original tags attached and is unwashed and unused. The product can be returned too without any reason given if it is in good condition as mentioned for exchanges. Please note that “Jabong.com’s 30 Day Returns Policy” does not apply to Inner wear, Lingerie, Fragrances, Beauty products, Jewellery, Swimsuits, CDs, Books and Toys. One more update: On popular demand, here is the pic of the kurti purchased from the website worn by me.

This is not a paid review. It is my honest opinion stemming from my own online shopping experience at the above-mentioned shopping portal.

111 Thoughts on “My Online Shopping Experience

  1. wow..that seems like a dream shopping experience. I’m generally vary of online shopping for items that need scrutiny like clothes, crockery or decor items, but your first-hand account gives me the courage to try it 🙂

  2. Its also great when everything works online .. the problem only comes when a error happens ..

till then all is well 🙂

    Bikram’s

    • True! But one must always be careful. Check terms and conditions, and most of them are generally responsive. Be very careful with vacation and ticketing portals though!

  3. Cool…..do they take returns too? Just curious..

  4. and what did u buy 🙂

  5. To be honest,I am not comfortable with online shopping.

  6. Thanks for sharing this Rachna..i have been skeptic about online shopping you have cleared my doubts.

  7. Interesting… I have never tried Jabong… have been seeing a few ads too. I have used FashionandYou and I am also a huge internet fan… most if not all by transactions are through the internet.

  8. I happy for you! I have had bitter experiences on the net so you know what I am like bitten several times over. Nothing beats the Flipkart experience though. I just love them! Thanks for the feedback.

    • I know about makemytrip experience of yours. Flipkart is good so it Tradus, snapdeal to an extent, indiatimesshopping and many other that I’ve personally shopped on. For airline tickets, never buy from portals like Yatra or makemytrip. Check them out only to compare prices. Then go the airline’s websites and purchase tickets. They are generally accountable, will accommodate if the flight is rescheduled, and will also handle refunds better. I always to that.

    • You can also try deal sites like Timesdeal, snapdeal etc. They are really good and they offer some great discounts on restaurant visit, health checks etc.

  9. I’m not a big shopper either but I do appreciate online shopping, you can’t beat the convenience!

  10. Rachna,

I have not tried online shopping yet but will pass on this information to our son who uses net for booking tickets etc. One can feel it a genuine review.

    Take care

  11. Nice post Rachna. 🙂
It is good to hear positive reviews of the portal, it encourages me who is not an online shopper to take the plunge. Maybe I might give it a try my self.
    Keep posting Rachna 😀

    • Hi Jay, Thank you so much for your kind words. Always exercise discretion and read terms and conditions especially about exchanges and refunds to be safe.

  12. I’ll try it when I am in India. Thanks for sharing your experience 🙂

  13. This is good news:) Will sure try it:)

  14. helloooo did i not comment here 🙂 I am sure i did 🙁

    Bikram’s

  15. This was a nice share of experience Rachna!

  16. i havent ventured into online shopping yet owing to anxiety. . but your account sounds really comforting and in every bit way tempting 😉 thanks for sharing this . . 🙂

  17. I also shop for books online. I have never done clothes shopping before. It is a bit risky I feel considering whether the clothes will fit me 🙂

  18. I have been doing online shopping from some time now. I haven’t tried Jabong yet but I think they have a nice line of products.
I recently had multiple bad experiences with Seventymm.com. They have ventured into clothes and home articles. My wife ordered two sarees and two double bedsheets. The colour of the sarees did not match at all. The blue was replaced by green. One of the bedsheet was not what we ordered but it was cheap so we did not bother. Now at least I will not shop from there again.
Ebay and Flipkart are good though. I think Flipkart should give me an award for the number of books I order from there. 🙂

    • Thank you for sharing your experiences, amit. I agree that ebay and flipkart are good. Though, of late, you really must check flipkart’s prices vis-a-vis others. Their discounts are not as good anymore. And, I joined an online library, so I’ve been buying very few books.

  19. I am not comfortable shopping online for clothes cause of the size issues. Also how can you check the material?
But your post has encouraged me. Will try something other than tickets and books soon.

    • You cannot check the material, but they do tell you what material it is. The pictures also help as you can see the detailing. As per the sizes, my size is pretty standard and I normally buy readymade garments even otherwise.

  20. Thanks Rachna for sharing this wonderful post 🙂

  21. So far I’ve been shopping for books and some stuff from Himalaya Drugs too. I’ve been eyeing some bags on Jabong but wasn’t sure about them. Thanks for the heads up on them. Off to look for what I want and give them a try!

  22. A friend of mine had a bad experience with Jbong for certain commodities other than clothes, but it turned out to be a good one when she went for clothes as specified in your post:)

  23. Interesting.. I have been meaning to try it out, but still not gotten around to it. Different materials, different brands and different cuts fit differently. So what happens, if doesn’t fit you the way you thought?

    • If it doesn’t fit you the way you thought, you could alter it or they exchange it as well. Always read the refund and return policy before ordering.

  24. That’s like a dream experience. But I don’t know if I would try it for clothes, what if doesn’t fit or something? 🙂

    • If you have brought the same label for eg. Kashish or Biba, then you know what size fits you. Since, my size is pretty standard and I do buy readymade clothes, it works for me. Besides the option of exchange is always there :).

  25. Wow! That’s a cool online shopping experience! Will check it out soon!

  26. I want to see what you ordered 😀 Isn’t buying clothes a bit tricky? I mean sometimes clothes look different than you imagine when you wear them.

    • It’s a kurti ;-). Yes, it could be tricky. I’ve shopped many times online and barring one or two incidents, they have been good. These days the portals are conscious of good refund or return policies to aid our decision making.

  27. I do most of my stuff online ..paying bills , checking statements , online survey but not a big online shopper .. Cuz wht they show and we get is different .. a whole big story or debate…
most of the desi websites I don’t trust ..it happened wid me .. but then not everyone is same or can do wrong ..
I like to buy personally and touch ,feel and wear it at the same time …being in fashion industry for so many years I personally feel a shopping experience is when you give it a personal touch!

    • I agree that each one has a different experience online. It is not as if we don’t have bad experiences when we shop physically. It all depends. And, I’ve shopped apparel online many times and have been happy. So, I guess it differs from person to person.

  28. i don’t shop online and i don’t think they can deliver in my town. i do my shopping when i visit a city. but i love going through these portals. will checkout this site 🙂

    • Going through the portals is fun :). Even if not clothes, you can shop for book or gadgets. You can get really good deals. But, I don’t know if they deliver in Silchar!

  29. Wow! that is great on line shopping. Even I like Jabong, unfortunately the size of the running shoes i am looking for in a particular color and model is not there in Jabong and even on other online sites. The deals are very good in all these sites.Good for you. But you must put the picture of the kurti you bought.

    • Hi rama,Yes, sometimes that is a problem. The deals are very good on these sites, I agree. Of course, one has to be cautious before any purchases, online or offline.

  30. I haven’t shopped for clothes online as yet. Maybe I will soon. 🙂

  31. I am always a bit wary about clothes shopping, especially my fears about fit and finish. So it was good to know that it all worked out well for you.
Perhaps a couple of additional lines about return-policy would have worked even better.
Great writeup! Thanks for sharing the experience.

    • Did you know that many people are still afraid of Netbanking :).I agree, like you I was apprehensive about purchasing clothes till I tried the very first time after seeing the cancellation and return policy. So far, I’ve shopped on 4 different portals for clothes and only once had to return the product without any hassles. Keeping your suggestion in mind, I’ve updated the post with a few sentences on the returns and refunds. Thanks for your comment, Rickie :).

  32. I keep shopping on line and glad to know you do too.
All the best for the contest 🙂

  33. never tried online shopping..good post boss..

  34. I dont buy things online. recently i got a pendant and earring set online, I was not happy. One was damaged and the other too heavy to tear my ears. Certain things can be booked online though; definitely!

  35. It was a good experience with Jabong. Products shipped on time and in good condition. They are doing good business.

  36. A while back even i never used to shop online, but now i only shop online cuz its just so convenient.

  37. Sorry for stepping in late, Rachna. Don’t know how I missed this post…:((
Enjoyed reading this very much,… more so because I have never done on-line shopping, apart from buying air-tickets!Fantastic….all the best for the contest!:))

    • Thank you Panchali! Your words are always warm, and I love your comments as well as your replies to my comments on your blog; each one well thought out and so welcoming! Try it! There’s always a first time.

  38. i was just looking here for the foto in that outfit…:))
    best wishes for the contest….!!

PS: sory foe being late here on couple of posts, i was just not able to keep myself in the wi-fi zone, so was unable to log-in.

    • Thank you Irfan! I guess I have to upload that pic in the kurti that I bought. So many have asked for it :). I understand about not logging in. It happens to all of us.

  39. I had a nice experience with jabong. The delivery time is very fast. Varied choice of branded goods. And the best thing is that we get to return the product in case we don’t like them.

    • I agree, Suman! Have you noticed that most online portals now offer good return and refund policies to increase our confidence in the process of online shopping. Thank you for your comment.

  40. The products and collections on jabong are great.

  41. This is a very nice post and my favorite thing about jabong is the COD,it just makes life so easy 🙂

  42. Jabong seems to have a huge collection of all brands.i like it

  43. u luk butifuli n this kurti

  44. A very nicely written post

  45. Nice Kurti

  46. Jabong.com is a shopping heaven

  47. i bought one of these from jabong itself. Very fine kurti and it was my second order on Jabong, and as pleased as i was when i received my first package. Wonderful service and excellent quality products.

  48. Great online shopping experience…value for products and quick turn around time…

  49. The problem is for them where the mistake is done by the company and the customers are the victim of it.JABONG.COM has a disgusting customer care policy and pathetic response for the victim.

This is Shital Joshi from Chittorgah. On 15th October, 2012 I have placed order on your online shopping. I made a shopping of 4 items (3 shirts and 1 kurta), total of around 4300 and with a discount coupon of 1000, I payed Rs. 3300 (approx.) through the SBBJ net banking. But till now, I couldn’t get the purchased items. When I checked my Jabong Account, I found that on the status it was mentioned that the goods has already been delivered. When I informed my problem to the customer care they are just giving false assurance to me. From the past 25 days they are giving giving a false assurance. So guys I just want to suggest you dont ever trust this online shopping and never pay money in advance. Their tag line is just fake and they never care about customer satisfaction. If they were so concerned about the customer they would definitely have done something for me..
So for me this will be the last online shopping from JABONG.COM.
