What a way the Indian electorate have delivered their verdict ! Very heartening, indeed !
It seems that finally the people of UP and Bihar are overlooking the caste considerations and delivering on hope of development and good governance. In UP, Congress made a comeback solely due to Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to provide them a glimmer of hope in the utterly hopeless life of corruption and criminalization. In Bihar, Lalu even lost in one of the two places he contested. How the mighty have fallen ! Paswan was wiped out and Nitish Kumar solely on the basis of good governance in the last 3 years swept the polls.
In Kerala and WB, the highhandedness of the Leftists was giving a thumbs down. The Leftists who withdrew support from the last government on the issue of N-deal were shown the door this time. This is their worst performance since 1977 and I think it is high time for them to realize that they have become a party whose time has gone. Their policies and ideologies are redundant and they seem to be stuck in a time warp. I hope they learn a lesson here.
In Orissa, Naveen Patnaik who was facing the Assembly Elections as well did phenomenally well on his own after breaking his alliance with the BJP just before the polls on account of the anti-Christian riots in Kandhmal. Once again, the people have sided with the clean image, good governance and peaceful policies of the incumbent government.
Maharashtra was surprising because the Congress-NCP alliance did well despite odds and despite the rout expected post 26/11. In Karnataka, the voters still gave a chance to BJP which was brought into power in the Assembly just last year. The pro-people reforms and good governance in Delhi, MP, Rajasthan too paid off.
Finally, the Indian electorate have humbled the mighty. They have given their mandate to the clean governance of Manmohan Singh and also to stability. This government has a lot of expectations riding on it to perform and to carry forward the policies for the poor and common man. To promote agriculture as well as industry. Let us try to be inclusive in our policies so that all of us in India prosper and not one segment at the cost of another. The UPA better perform this time, they have no scope for blamegames at the end of this 5-year term. The markets cheered for stability and after a long time the stocks soared today.
It seems for now all of us are smiling and cheering 🙂
