Today, I have a very special person posting on my blog: my husband, Gurdev :). Much has been said about him in my posts. But it is time for him to speak in a post that merges fact and fiction :). This is what he has to say:
———————————————————————————————————————————–
Wow, The Netherlands! In summer, I cannot imagine a better place to be in, in the whole wide world. Warm and beautiful people, lovely cities, even more breathtaking countryside and beer on tap :). What more can a man ask for? Family! I’ve been counting days since the time I came here. It was a two-month long trip from my hometown, Bangalore. And tomorrow is the day I’ve been waiting for. Tomorrow morning this time I’d be on the flight back home. Oh what a Friday it’s been so far! Woke up before regular time, tried the new flavor at the Starbucks on my way to work, and I just can’t seem to lose this tune from my mind :). The folks at work want to take me out for a lunch. It’s almost making me forget how badly I’ve wanted to go home.
Around 3pm just after getting back to office after a very long and rather rambunctious lunch, my colleagues start to say the weekend goodbyes and trickle out. I quickly wind up my work for I have to attend to my last minute shopping for gifts back home before the shops close. Hair serum for wifey, the roller blades for my elder son and the chocolates, of course, rich sinful of the Belgian kind. Damn, why couldn’t I be better organized and not leave things for the last minute! Can’t remember ever having delivered projects before time during Engineering or during MBA either. We men are like this only. We always deliver our projects in the nick of the time but somehow we end up delivering the best when we do so :).
I didn’t get sound sleep in the anticipation of the flight in the morning.  But all drowsiness is erased for today is the day! I indulge myself with a long breakfast of fine Dutch cheese and bread. And it’s time to catch the airport shuttle. I reach the airport 2 hours before the flight. The check-in and security check takes hardly any time. Now, there is one and a half hour to kill before boarding starts. Lucky me I have my iPad loaded with the best free games that no amount of money can buy :).
Half an hour more before boarding starts. Can surely use the restroom – one for the road :). While washing my hands I can’t believe what I see. How did I miss it all this time today morning? I have a two-day old stubble. That’s me. I hate shaving even in a foreign land where there is a premium attached to a well-shaved look. But what I see on my face brings back terrible memories of what I faced back home after another similar flight. That time, I had reached home just at the crack of dawn. I had unlocked the front door with my spare keys and had rushed to hug my sweet lady in her sleep. But she was already up, somehow having sensed my arrival. I took her in my arms and hugged her as tightly as she could tolerate. She returned the hug, and I pouted my lips readying them to plant kisses on her, and she turned her face away. Didn’t realize until then that I was carrying a day-old stubble :(.
I thought to myself that I would attend to it right then. But after a relaxed bath and shave, I hardly had any time to catch up with wife and kids for I had to rush to the office for some fire-fighting. I came back in the evening, and it was too late. All were asleep. I quietly went to bed silently craving for my pending kisses.
I was not going to let it happen this time. But all my shaving equipment is safely tucked into my checked-in luggage. I quickly rush out to see if any shop at the airport stocks any shaving equipment. Ah, luckily for me the second shop I hit had just the thing –The Gillette Fusion ProGlide shaving razor. At the airport everything costs a bomb except for liquor and chocolates. No :)? I was not holding off this purchase for the premium airport pricing. I had to have this shave at any cost. I got a travel pack of Gillette shaving foam and the Gillette Fusion ProGlide and hurried to the rest room. And there much to the smirks and amusement of the people, I had my first shave with the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. Until then I was doing nicely with my trusted old Gillette Mach 3 Razor. Oh boy, what have I been missing all this time! Hadn’t had such a smooth and close shave ever before. I thought that there wasn’t anything better than a Mach 3. Oh, how wrong I was! Finally, I emerged from the restroom just in time to be at the end of the boarding queue to my flight home.
Back home, the entire family was waiting anxiously to hear the screeching sound of my taxi coming to a halt. And what a welcome that was! As soon as I landed, I went straight for my lady who I loved so much. I picked her up and planted what seemed like hundreds of kisses on her face. And this time little Ashna didn’t turn her face the other way. Wife was mighty pleased that I took care of my stubble for our darling daughter. She had long accepted the fallback in priority since the little lady came in my life!
Everyone loved their gifts. Most of all I loved the gift I got for myself at the airport ;-)!

  1. Wow, special treat for all of us!! That aside, I use the Pro Glide Power, and it is without doubt the best shaving experience ever. Costwise, it seems steep to start with, but the cartridges last for ever compared to the 50-60-buck ones for Sensor Excel and Mach-3 Turbo. Honestly, I thought the Mach-3 line was like the iPad mini, trying to create a product niche by force.

    • Subhorup,
Thanks for your lovely comments and tips. Until now, I’ve been a silent follower of your posts and comments via wifey.
I will be hoping to bump into you more often, now 🙂

  2. Wifey’s been pressuring me to write something on her blog. And frankly I too was tempted but wasn’t getting a topic to write upon. That’s when this contest came and I thought that even I had a good idea for it. So, that’s how this came about. I haven’t written for a seriously long time. And I feel that my writing has become very rusty.
So, people please be gentle on me 🙂 And please don’t measure me with the same yardstick that you use for my star writer wife 🙂

    • How sweet, Gurdev :). I feel over the moon that you wrote this post for my blog! You will find that all my blogger friends are extremely nice and encouraging people!

  3. The Stubble has been troubling a lot of us recently 😉
