Since the elections are still going on and the opportunists that the politicians are, they don’t want to rule out alignment with any party. For the sake of power they would be willing to align with a dog too. Mr. Rahul Gandhi – the poster boy of Indian politics, is now sucking up to the Left which kicked the ass of Congress over the N-deal and almost brought down the government. He says that he is confident that the Left will support Mr. Manmohan Singh as PM. Based on what??? Is he already getting cold feet that the Congress will not be able to get the numbers. He even praised Mr. Naidu and Mr. Nitish Kumar in a bid to leave open a door for alliances with them. Mr. Gandhi is also credited with introducing democracy and elections in the party cadres of Congress. He says that no one should be a party head based on the lineage – how ironical; he is the General Secretary of the Congress only based on his credentials of belonging to India’s first family of Nehru-Gandhi. All the Congressmen literally prostrating in front of him fills one with disgust. They say he is the future PM. I don’t see him being any different from so many others before him. Where is the dynamism, the ethics, the faith to stand by one’s convictions in politics these days? Why are all politicians increasing looking like caricatures of each other? Look around you – Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mayawati, Karunanidhi, Jayalalitha, Deve Gowda, Ram Vilas Paswan are all corrupt, self-centred people. In this scenario, only Mr. Manmohan Singh (without holding onto Madam’s pallu) and Mr. L.K.Advani if he tones down the Hindutva rhetoric seem to be the safest bet. But then again, Indian elections are more unpredictable than a T20 game.
