Yep, I love sharing my childhood memories with my kids. The same incidents too often as hubby pointed out quietly :). So, I was relating to them something about cold drinks. Of course, we did not have Coke or Pepsi back then. I was fondly recalling Campa Cola when my younger son asked me, “Mom, did you live in purana zamana (olden times)?”  “What, of course not!” I said. “You did not have Coke and Pepsi, ” he said with a look of pity on his face. Imagine what he would have said if I told him about DD in detail. He would have characterized me a creature, born in the 70s, to be officially Stone Age!

And the younger one is finally taking on to reading! There is a series of books called Step into Reading! I have found them to be really wonderful with large font sizes and great pictures to get your child interested in reading. You can begin with the easier ones when your child is around 4. I personally have always loved this series. This is one joy I would love Gautam to know and enjoy as much as his brother and I have loved over the years.

IBA

On another note, Rachna Says, this blog, won the Indian Blogger Award (IBA) held by Indiblogger in the category Literature and Personal – Relationships! It felt really good to be recognized! Relationships are very important to me. And I love to share my experiences about them in my blog. Yes, it is rewarding that these posts touch a chord with my readers. And that they made an impression on the jury members too. But more than the award, I was overwhelmed with the love and affection of fellow bloggers. I was inundated with messages, tweets, FB messages, emails and phone calls of congratulations and pats on the back. Some of them were from people I had never interacted with earlier and did not know were aware of my blog or writing! Blogging still throws up surprises after all these years!  It was truly heartwarming and touching! A big thank you to everyone! Especially to all of you, my spectacular readers!

  1. Purana zamana always feels good 🙂
Hearty congrats on the win !

  2. Congrats on the award, Rachna!
I remember one bottle of Coca Cola that we got back in school. A group of us were invited to sing the prayer song for the inauguration of a police station nearby and they gave us one bottle to share among 6 of us. Felt like we were in heaven, many of us didn’t even have refrigerators at home then 🙂

  3. Congratulations once again. That was truly well deserved!
And so great to know your little one has started reading. It’s the best habit a child can develop. 🙂

  4. Yes Rachna the way the world is changing the ones that are two decades older than present generation are prehistoric creatures! Fortunately still not identified with dinosaurs:)
    The award was richly deserved!

  5. Congratulations on the win! When I saw your name in the winners list, I thought to myself that it was well deserved. Keep up the good work!
This step into reading series sounds cool. I wish my parents had given me this… maybe that would have resulted in more reading. I’m so guilty of not reading enough!

    • Thanks so much, Nisha! Well, we did not have these fabulous books when we were growing up. So, we started reading later. But these lovely picture and story books are so beautiful to initiate young children into reading.

And here I thought I was the only one who gets the “Ma you’re repetitive” kind of eye roll. But then there is always the blog to recall my crazy childhood isn’t there?

  7. Hearty Congratulations on winning the prestigious award. Wish you many more awards in future. Purana zamana was really good. We got coca cola for four annas!!Life was simple and little things gave us joy.

  9. I too love to write about my children and my childhood memories! And read about other children and the blogger’s memories! They are all precious and this blogging is a good platform to record our memories. Our children can read them after some years and enjoy!

Congratulations, once again, Rachna! Glad to know you!

  10. Hi Rachna,
Here comes a BIG CONGRATS for the win. Keep it up!!! Coming to the post, a good. One, but instead of worrying about the ,purana jamana, you should have told the bad effect the colas and pepsi can create in human beings, I have heard that in northern parts of India the farmers are using those stuffs as pesticides, woh that is is really an unpleasant news, but, Truth is always bitter.
    Keep Going.
    Best Regards

    • Thank you so much, Ariel! That I wrote in jest. Both my kids are well aware of the bad effects of cola. We have it very rarely at our place and that included packaged juice, chips and all other kinds of sugary drinks.

  11. Congratulations on getting the award.. 🙂 looking forth to your next post..!

  12. Proud of you and your win! And this is just the beginning.

  13. Congratulations on your win! Best part of the awards is discovering so many fun blogs 🙂

  14. Campa Cola, RT Cola, Maaza!! All awesome drinks…at least, felt so at that time!

  15. Puraana or Naya, your blog rocks. Congratulations.

  16. First of all, congratulations on winning the IBA awards. A well-deserved one. 🙂
You should have told him of the Krishi Darshan, Khoj and Potli Baba ki…he would have definitely characterized you as a Stone Age creature. 😀
There’s so much they get to see, hear, listen and experiment with that they feel we indeed are from purana zamana. I believe, our parents too would have gone through this, but with lesser intensity as we didn’t have so much freedom or openness with them as our kids have with us. At least that holds good for me. 🙂

  17. Puraana Zamaana indeed, tell them there were no cell phones or google then 🙂 Hey Hearty Congrats on winning the award. Definitely well deserved

  18. I never knew about this richly deserving recognition.Hearty Congratulations!!!

  19. Congratulations yet again .. I think my tweet might be the first to congratulate you on 15th .. excited I was to see you out there .. Much Deserved !! 🙂
BTW..Campa Cola days are they older than GoldSpot days too 😀 ?

    • Thanks once again :). Were you the first one? That’s so sweet. And such a lovely message as well. I am blessed to have such wonderful friends. About your question, I think Campa Cola and Gold Spot existed in similar timelines, at least I think so :).

      • It feels great to see the deserving and the known to be winning .. 🙂
🙂 I remember GoldSpot a little bit .. I think it lasted longer than Campa Cola which i have heard of but never chanced to see the bottle 🙂

        • Thanks again! In which case, perhaps Campa Cola came earlier or maybe it wasn’t available every where in India. I know Duke’s was only there in Western India.

  20. I think when we mention to our children that we lived without mobiles, 100 channels, Mc Donalds and cars, they will be utterly shocked. Things have changed so much in the last 30 years. 🙂
And congratulations again on winning the award! It is great that so many bloggers I know won in so many categories! 🙂

  21. Hehehe…we sail in the same boat…Rushi is very curious too..btw, congrats once again on the award 🙂

  22. Hearty wishes, Rachna. You surely deserved this.
