Sometimes, simple things in life like sleeping would not bother us much and would most times go unnoticed unless there is a problem. Insomnia or lack of sleep is a vicious cycle. One can’t sleep due to some stress and then it becomes aggravated due to the anxiety of not being able to sleep. Sleep or the lack of it directly affects our moods and functioning ability. One gets very crabby if one doesn’t get enough of it.
After ruling out physical problems, the next step is to go to sleep therapist. This is to help one to condition one’s mind and body to fall into fitful sleep. Any psychological therapy is tricky because unlike a drug it depends a lot on the individual’s disposition and the skill of the care provider to customise the treatment. Cognitive behaviour therapy is the big buzzword. On paper, it seems great and a solution to all problems. When put into practice, the results will vary. I guess one has to be patient and persistent and hopeful and keep the faith for the duration of the therapy.
If successful, it can do wonders to one’s life and moods. I am hopeful it will do the needful. My advice to anyone suffering from any sleep problems would be to seek help and not keep ignoring it till it becomes chronic. Family support and a good sense of humor help a lot.
