A younger Coco!
My poor Coco is suffering from a huge tick infestation. Every time I leave him at the dog boarder’s, he tends to pick up some ticks invariably despite the tick treatment that we do before. And, this had happened a couple of months back as well. I had done his tick treatment and also regular brushing and killing of the offenders had immediately brought it under control. But a week back, the children noticed that Coco had a new kind of tick on his body very different from the usual dog ticks; they called it spider tick. This was an agile tick that is called “deer tick.” It is much more mobile and tends to spread and multiply rapidly in the surroundings. It even roams on surfaces and attaches quickly to any object. It seems to particularly like the ear and paw area of the dog. Each one of us in the house including my youngest son has turned into “tick-finding monkey!” Poor Coco, he is itching so much. And then, we noticed that one tick had attached itself to my youngest son’s tummy area. That was a scary sight and really alarmed us.
We took Coco to the vet. The vet gave him an anti-tick injection, and we have been asked to isolate Coco to one part of the house to prevent the infestation from spreading to the entire house. This has been especially painful to do. Coco who is used to being all around the place is now in one corner and cannot even sleep in his usual place. He gives us such sad looks and really makes us feel miserable. We all are feeling so sad for him, but we recognize the gravity of the situation and have no other option. Wishing for a speedy recovery for Coco and hoping that we get rid of all these disgusting creatures from our house :(.
Send your good wishes our way!

  1. Ohh… poor Coco! 🙁
Don’t worry, you will be alright soon, Coco!

  2. Oh poor baby, hope he won’t have to be isolated long. Ticks are no joke, I hear.

  3. I remember how I and father used to fuss around our favourite pet dog way back in 80’s when Tinku had a fierce attack of ticks. May God bless Coco!

    • Thank you Umashankar! Dogs are so sweet and loving; it is difficult to see them go through the agony. Poor guy, he does not understand why he is being isolated this way :(.

  4. Rachna,

This is really a big menace, specially in dogs with long coat. Not only injection but there are tick powders too which are useful. Do ask vet and use it as advised. Ticks need to be either burnt or drowned in Dettol treated water. Also be very cautious about tick fever as that is very dangerous. Hope Coco recovers soon and gets back to normal life full of love. They are just like family members. Our dog has to sleep on our bed. As soon as light is switched off, she jumps onto the bed and snuggles at my feet.

    Take care

Argh…ticks can be such a nuisance, Rachna. I understand. At one point I had five of dogs in my house. Avoid taking him to the lawn…because, that’s the place where ticks breed.
Give him a nice pat from my side<3 All the best, coco..

    • Yes, we tried not taking him to our lawn. That did not seem to work either. We are going to get some pesticides to spray there. Thanks for your love to Coco!

We go through infections for our Tiger all the time.
And he refuses to get into the car for visit to Doc!

    • Thank you Pattu! And, this guy is the opposite; he digs a car ride. Sometimes if he sees an open car door, he is willing to get inside irrespective of whose car it is :).

  14. Its really sad, take care. Though we follow all preventive measure, sometimes it goes out of control 🙁

  15. Ohhh poor Coco, our vest wishes to him. You must be having a tough time 🙁

  17. That’s that saddest part to confine him to a particular area. Hope he recovers soon and be seen all over the place.

  18. So sorry to hear about this, Rachna. Have you taken up the matter with the present place you board him with? I’m not sure where you stay in Bangalore, but you need to look at another place to board him too. I’ve heard of a super place near the old airport – want me to find out more?

    • Thanks Corinne! I have a couple of dog boarders that are pretty reliable. This lady that I left him with boards them in her house and is very loving. In all probability, he picked up these ticks from the tall grass in our lawn :(. That is what the vet says. Thanks for your offer, but at the moment I am just going crazy trying to sanitize the house. It is so draining — physically and mentally. And, I feel so sorry for Cooc. Thanks for your concern dear.

    • Okay – I was furious on your behalf (and Coco’s of course!)with the boarders ;). I can understand how tiring is must be. I’ve been thinking of Coco all day, poor baby!

    • Thanks so much, Corinne <3. Coco is okay; he is sulking a bit less!

  19. Dear Coco, It’s just a matter of a few days and soon you’ll have the run of your house. Get well soon. Hugs. 🙂

  20. Oh can empathise. Ticks have to be tackled on a war footing. That is another downside of leaving pets at the boarders. There are anti tick shampoos also available.
Heres wishing a quick comeback to normalcy!

  21. It looks so cute & snug in this picture.

  22. Oh..poor Coco. Try tick shampoos n powders. Comb and powder daily, that might help. Avoid leaving him at boarders often. My pet Ronnie too is recovering from a tick infection now, in isolation:(

  23. It is sad to see your pet suffer, when he can’t even say what is bothering him. Reminds me of the time I had held our Joey on my lap as he lay listless with a running tummy. Here is wishing Coco a speedy recovery and respite from debugging for you 🙂

    • Yes, it is difficult to see him suffer. It is more difficult because we can’t tell him why we are doing certain things. First, he suffers the crawlies and then his interaction with the family is reduced too :(. Thank you for all the wishes.

  24. I know how it is when your dog gets sick.they cant communicate but we can read it from their eyes.
    get well soon,Coco

  25. hmm oh no , I hope he gets fine sooon, I use to hate when my pet’s would get sick , they cant even tell us .. He will be Fine for sure very sooon ..

  31. I hope he gets well soon. He is so cute!

  32. that sucks… arent there collars laced with some tick repellent stuff or something. Must be tough on him as well. Suffering as well as being forced to stay away from his masters.
